The Official Vrabel vs Ben Johnson Discussion Thread

Not when you'll have your preference Sam.
It was Vrabel 1A for Kraft, Johnson 1B prior to Johnson’s interview.
He would have had to do a lot to tip that scale.
I just want some clarity soon.

5 of the 6 coaches that just got fired were defensive coaches.

The league has shifted. Defensive coaches are no where near what they were 20+ years ago.

6/14 playoff teams have non offensive coaches. The bottom 3 teams are offensive head coaches.

I haven't heard a single thing other teams have learned from the other interviews that had anything to do with future success. Do you have a list? Not just a team's saying we learned a lot but what teams actually learned from guys they did not hire in the interview process that actually led to results on the field?

I interviewed a ton of people over my career and at the beginning I interviewed everyone that applied, by the end I'd narrow 100 resumes down to 3 or 4 no problem and never felt like I missed anything doing it that way.

So overblown the interview a lot of people angle, has no real benefit if you have top candidates willing to come.
You have to be a pretty incompetent organization to need to interview 10 guys, what kind of screening process are you failing at?

Your personal experience in hiring sounds like it has zero relevance to hiring a head coach in the NFL. 100 resumes? Clearly you are looking to hire for a role that is an open listing that any goon off the street could apply for. In that situation every hiring manager does the same thing cutting through the **** and narrows it down to a small number that actually are interviewed.

I too also conduct some interviews and when I see people who are currently with a direct competitor apply, I’ll speak to them every time to see if I can get some insight.

The Krafts are quite clearly out of touch with modern day operation of an NFL franchise. They should be talking to as many people they can to figure out what the hell they are missing.

I think Johnson controls this hiring cycle right now. Once he commits to a destination Vrabel's leverage will increase exponentially, as he will then become the crown jewel of the remaining candidates. Or in the Pats case the only remaining candidate.

Again, I see zero evidence teams garner anything from These candidates that help them win in the future. Still waiting for a list of those incredible nuggets from the last 20 years of these interviews.

I'm guessing your competitor didn't have 10 reporters reporting on everything about that company inside and out like NFL teams?

You really believe these other teams have some secrets sauce the Patriots can't learn about by any means other than a 2-3 hour interview where some guy will just spill the beans?

They should probably request an interview with 31 other OC's and DC's, don't want to miss anything.

Important Vrab stats
Here are some defensive stats for the Tennessee Titans under head coach Mike Vrabel:
  • 2018: The Titans defense ranked eighth overall in the NFL, allowing 333.4 yards per game. They also ranked second in the red zone, sixth in passing defense, and first in fourth-quarter defense.

  • 2022: The Titans allowed 359 points per game, which ranked 14th out of 32 teams.

Apparently big **** Brady got Johnson to interview with the Raiders

We don't have those skills players on the team right now.

They don't exist.

J. Polk could not separate in college. It was not a matter of misuse. He is not fast. Has separation issues. Is easy to lock down. Looks good in college when he's the 3rd WR going against the oppositions nickel back. Not an NFL WR.
Polk had no problem separating in college. 4.52 is not slow. There are many star receivers currently (and in the recent past) in the NFL that ran 4.52 or slower. What’s the difference between him and them ? I’d say coaching. The Patriots have been SO bad at teaching and cultivating receivers the last 10 years. The Pats need a good receivers coach and a good OC.

Not sure on separation because he was 65th percentile in college vs single coverage. Roman Wilson was 74th, Ladd McConkey was 78th, McMillan was 77th. Considering he was not the #1 guy at Washington those are not good separation stats.

He was also 194th in YAC in college which is bad. I don't think he has the qualities to make it in the NFL, YAC and separation are key,

I didn't know what his 40 time was. On the field, I've seen guys catch up to him when he had 5 uyards ahead of him. But separation has always been a problem for him.

This is the money thing, my friend messaged me about they were 5 mill apart a season,
They should meet halfway and get it done,
Expecting 12 to 12.5 a season.
Honestly if I’m Vrabel I play hardball. Patriots need to come away with him or Johnson and the Pats need to wait on him.
