Seeing a good number of people online stating that Vrabel would be a worse choice because he'd need to hire a good OC. Even If he does that and they do well the OC would leave, and he'd have to hire the next OC and again and again.
I slightly lean Johnson myself but think this whole angle is a bit overblown.
If the OC leaves it means Drake Maye is a star, and like other star QB's, they are fine with the next OC. Josh Allen seems to have no issues. This same line of reasoning would have you replace Dan Campbell with Ben Johnson.
Vrabel had Matt Lafleur, followed by Arthur Smith. Even Todd Downing first year was a huge success. But they did not have an elite QB and the talent fell off.
I think Tommy Rees might be very good from what I've read, if he was the choice I think you can get Maye to where he needs to be before he leaves.
Of course, Johnson is proven and that's his advantage, but Head Coaches can be successful without being the play caller. Yes, easier if they are but not a deal breaker IMO.
And honestly, if Maye is not a star we aren't winning a SB anyways.
