This has an opening post with good commentary and information, which we definitely recommend reading.

Seeing a good number of people online stating that Vrabel would be a worse choice because he'd need to hire a good OC. Even If he does that and they do well the OC would leave, and he'd have to hire the next OC and again and again.
I slightly lean Johnson myself but think this whole angle is a bit overblown.

If the OC leaves it means Drake Maye is a star, and like other star QB's, they are fine with the next OC. Josh Allen seems to have no issues. This same line of reasoning would have you replace Dan Campbell with Ben Johnson.
Vrabel had Matt Lafleur, followed by Arthur Smith. Even Todd Downing first year was a huge success. But they did not have an elite QB and the talent fell off.
I think Tommy Rees might be very good from what I've read, if he was the choice I think you can get Maye to where he needs to be before he leaves.
Of course, Johnson is proven and that's his advantage, but Head Coaches can be successful without being the play caller. Yes, easier if they are but not a deal breaker IMO.
And honestly, if Maye is not a star we aren't winning a SB anyways.

Lots of talk here about Vrebel and an elite OC. So who's that elite OC? Not going to be able to poach any current successful OC's as their teams won't release them from their contracts. So who among assistants or available retreads are we talking about? And isn't that as much of a gamble as Ben Johnson as HC?
No
Ben Johnson is a gamble because we don’t know if he can run the whole show
And who is BJ going to bring in as his elite DC
We know that Vrabel can run the whole show
It’s who is he can bring in as his elite OC
There is 2 sides of the ball with both HC candidates and the biggest question is can they be a good HC
Vrabel has 1 ? BJ has 2 ??

The Pats didn't fire Mayo so they can hire Vrabel. Vrabel isn't signing anytime soon, so firing Mayo Sunday night was because he needed to be fired.

Why wait? There was no reason to. I am not even certain Vrabel is the guy anyways.

I think we're going to lose this one bud. The tide has turned.

Who's the young, smart and innovative OC that you'd lose in a few years if successful?
That’s a big question mark for sure
But if we did get lucky and get a innovative OC and he leaves in 3 years or so
We can then get Ben Johnson as our OC after he gets fired from his HC stint
Only kidding
I like BJ. He is intriguing.
Just don’t think the Krafts will swing for the fences when there is a chance they could strike out again.
I think they go for the double in the gap

Vrabel gives us instant credibility and toughness.
He loves the Orgsnization, can relate to players, unlike Mayo gets hands on.

We could do a lot worse, he’s out coached Bill a few times, his teams always play tough and disciplined.
Will have to see the staff.

Pep Hamilton worth considering.

Pep Hamilton worth considering.
I seen that today
He is worth considering as a QB coach and experienced ear if Vrabel brings Rees with him
But going to look into him
I know they have to fulfill the Rooney Rule. Sometimes the interview is not for the HC position in the minds of ownership but for other positions that need to be filled. That goes for any candidate

IMO Vrabel is long gone…he’ll be the next Raiders coach thanks to Brady.

My 2 cents.. whoever has interview lined up 2nd is probably the front runner for the job.

So if Ben Johnson interviews second with us and has also scheduled Chicago first it would imply that we are his choice 1.

Similarly if Vrabel has interview lined up first and Baj up next it means pats are also leaning in BJ direction. The only discussion in that scenario between BJ and pats would be how to set up culture and who the DC would be and they might insist on some experience in DC and culture setting and also understand how he intended to set operations.

But if BJ is bringing in all rookie DC and OC then we are signing off with Vrabel. Experience is going to be a huge factor for pats this time.

I think he's more aligned with the Pats than TB, he's extremely proud to have been a SB Winner and HOF here.
At least I hope so, didn't like hearing that news about Pierce.
Pay him MORE because of the tax if needed.
I personally don't think Ben is going to be able to do EVERYTHING, especially in year 1.

1) Ben Johnson

2) Mike Vrabel

3) the Field
Bah, that little **** has ZERO Experience as the Boss, and he won't have enough time to teach whatever little DOUCHE he brings in.
luv ya cap, we disagree on this mothafkr.

The Lions said they will permit Johnson (and Aaron Glenn) to do interviews between Thursday and Saturday.

Vrabel’s interview is first on Thursday and I am sure he is their leading candidate. They will get his pitch first. Then they will talk to Johnson that evening or Friday (I’m guessing) and get his pitch, and see if it’s better in some way than Vrabel’s. If BJ really knows their socks off then they will reconsider, but if it isn’t to that level then they call Vrabel up Friday night and say “job’s yours, man”.

Then assuming they hire Vrabel they’ll announce it and start building a staff, and they will be way out in front of most other organizations. Vrabel is the only “high tier” candidate who is eligible to be hired right away. Everyone else will generally need to wait until (I think) January 20th at the earliest to hire their coach, or later if that coach is still active in the postseason, which means that the Pats will get like a 2 weeks jump on poaching from other staffs. Big advantage.

Thanks for the reminder, spring training's just around the corner.
