I still can't believe how close Brady came to beating the Panthers by himself:

-The referrees adding an INT to his stat sheet.

That was Tom vs. The panthers last night and he almost pulled it off.

Well let me rephrase. He tries to minimize the play, says very little about it, and avoids using it as an excuse. He puts more emphasis on the fact that they just didn't make enough plays than he does on one play.

We as fans all know the non-call was crucial and if called correctly could have led to a win. We know the Patriots got hosed, but there's no whining from Bill. That's what I take from the interview. The most you get from his is implied, slow-burn, non-verbal anger. No whining.

In contrast, Dilfer and Steve Young were up in arms about the call. I agree with them that the call was bad, and it's their job to be dramatic, but I'm glad Bill or Brady didn't have that kind of hysterical reaction.

I can only imagine the train wreck of a reaction that Scam Lootin would have had had something like that happened to his team.

I guess you missed the shot of Tom (and Mallett) chasing the refs down the tunnel, F-bombing them as they went.

Or how about BB refusing to leave the podium until someone asked him about the non-call? (No one had asked him because, normally, he wouldn't even entertain the question) Do you think he wasn't livid behind close doors? Because I do.

The Pats running game was very good last night. The Pats run D was also excellent.

Against the RB's, the run D was decent. Against Newton, there were far too many breakdowns that led to drives being extended.

That call was bull****, but the Patriots deserved to lose if it came down to a referee decision. It should have never have come to that if they handled their business earlier in the game

I did not think the defense was that bad they held the Panthers to 300 total yards and 24 points. The Panthers as an offense had scored 30+ in 4 of its last 5 games.

A wise man once said "Deserve's got nothing to do with it". The refs need to make the correct call. On the game's first play, the last and all the one's in-between. Period.

The defensive performance in this game is a mirage like Superbowl 46 IMO.

Game had a lot of similarities to the game last season vs. the 49ers when we entered the half down 17-3 and rallied in the second half but came up just short.

I know 99% here believe it was the wrong call. I don't blame you guys either. But I have a question.

I saw a game a couple years ago on fox. Can't remember the teams. Similar situation happened, albeit not t the end of the game. Either way...the wr was completely mugged in the end of the end zone while the ball was in the air. However, there was an additional db who tipped the ball maybe 5 yards in front. Flag was thrown and then picked up. They brought in mike pereira to clarify and said it's not possible to have pass interference no matter what IF the ball is tipped prior, despite how much contact there is to the intended wr.

Is this similar or a different situation? I'm assuming tipped and int are virtually the same thing. Just curious if that's irrelevant or not.

Once the ball is tipped, anything goes. However, if the PI occurred before the ball was tipped, it should still be PI.

Some of you are acting like a bunch of babies, the team deserved to lose just like the jets and bengals games. Yeah the non-call at the end was bad, but so was the non-call on cannon's leg whip of davis.

I have to agree, we lost because Cam and the boys controlled the clock. We need to contain/stop the run to get back to the AFC championship game against the Broncos

Watching Arrington get burned by one of the worst receivers in the league in exactly the same manner as last year's loss to San Francisco was sickening. Why he was resigned when there was a down market and other decent corners available still perplexes me. Also seeing Marquice Cole and Tavon Wilson playing snaps on defense is disheartening.

This team was extremely top heavy to begin with and the mounting injuries have finally taken their toll. Once again Tom Brady and the offense will have to carry the team and play mistake free football to have any chance in the postseason.

Gotta love people who whine about who is on the field while not acknowledging the reason those people are on the field. Arrington and Cole were there because Talib and Dennard were out with injury and the Pats needed to put 6 DBs on the field. Injuries are something you can't predict no matter how many people on here claim you can.

What slot corner who can also play outside on a limited basis was still available when Arrington was re-signed?

I think the Pats were jobbed. If the foul occurs before the ball gets there, it's still a foul. Keuchly held Gronk so he had no way to get back into the play towards the ball.

I've never heard of the rule being that if the foul occurs 'at or around the same time' the ball is in flight or any bull like that. Find me that 'at or around the same time' language in the rulebook!!

Looking back, the non-call in the end was bogus, but the Panthers made bigger plays when it counted.

- Panthers dialed up that fake blitz to confuse Solder. That was a great call and was probably something they saw on film

Except that it was a protection call by Brady. Yeah, that's Solder's fault that his job it to block a guy who pulls back. HUH?

- Panthers D knowing full well that Ridley is prone to fumbling was constantly going after the ball when he ran and it paid off

- Cam made spectacular plays on 3rd downs to keep drives going

Those plays were made possible by the Panthers O-linemen tackling Patriots defensive players. I watched Wharton and Bell tackle Ninkovich and Chris Jones on several plays tonight.

- Their defense made a stand and held the Pats to 3 points while our defense gave up a touchdown

The only real bonehead play from our guys was Mankins unsportsmanlike penalty.

Talib was in for most of the game along with a three year starter in Arrington and one of the better safeties in the AFC in McCourty. They were still horrible on third down, especially in the money quarter. It wasn't all on the secondary, though. The DL was consistently pushing too far upfield and guys were blowing their assignments which allowed Newton to escape from the pocket for a couple of big third down runs. A good example of this is when Hightower just simply ran into the back of the DL as Carter pushed upfield to try to generate a pass rush (which was also pathetic for most of the night).

Talib missed the entire 4th quarter and part of the 3rd. Arrington isn't an outside corner and everyone knows that. Saying he's a 3 year starter is BS.

The Pass rush was actually pretty good, for the most part. You are like so many other people who don't understand that SACKS aren't what determine a good pass rush. There were numerous times Newton had to throw the ball on the run because of the pressure he felt.

I remember all of those defenses save '91, given my age at that time. I also remember the way the defense played at the beginning of this season, which was night and day from last night. Want to know what they all have in common besides being bad? They're all irrelevant to the topic of last night's defense being awful.

No. They perfectly relevant because those are examples of truly awful defenses. But I'm not surprised that you have to live up to your name and be contrary for the sake of being contrary.

Why is the defense so "night and day" from the beginning of the year. Because they were missing 5 starters to begin with.

Can you point to a picture, GIF, or video where those guys are all being tackled? Because I didn't see that. If it happened all game, it shouldn't be that hard to find. Instead, what I remember is routine holding which, unless it's egregious, goes uncalled a lot of the time. The Pats did it a good amount too. What I saw was Gross thoroughly controlling Chandler Jones at the point of attack and the rest of the DL unable to generate anywhere near a consistent pass rush. When they got into the backfield, Newton usually broke away and ran because someone behind them would usually blow their assignment and failed to contain.

Of course you didn't see it. You constantly ignore things that you don't want to believe. Sorry that you think that guys like Wharton and Bell should be allowed to tackled to the ground our D-linemen and you think it's "routine".

Do yourself a favor, Kontra, stop living up to your name. You'd be a much better poster for it.
