Excited for 43?
I am.
It's too hard to find good OLB's in the 34. There's only a handful in this league. 2 on Pittsburgh, Mathews, Orakpo, and DeMarcus Ware. Other than that? Really not too many good 34 OLBs. That's only 5 in the entire league. There's been far more BUSTS at 34 OLB (Gholston, Crable, Maybin, etc)
The switch to 43 is an instant bandaid for the pass rush. There's less learning curve for new players brought in like Anderson and Carter.
Haynesworth is a beast in the 43.
Mayo was a tackling machine in the 34, but looks like a playmaker in the 43. He's getting to the QB unlike I've ever seen him do while at ILB in the 34. He's all over the Bucs backfield. Mayo hit the QB numerous times and has a couple sacks.
Changing to 43 is simply playing to the strengths of what is available on our roster.
Our Defense is aggressive and attacking. Lots of competition in camp is good. Everyone's competing to get a lick on the RB and QB. It looks like a feeding frenzy out there!
Our pass rush weakness last year will now be a strength. I love how this D is attacking now.
