Are people still perpetuating the myth that McCourty is a top safety? I'd hate to think how many yards old man Manning and his Denver Floater would have racked up vs. an average safety!!

Brady can't hit a receiver more than 10 yards down the field. It wouldn't matter if they had Megatron and Fitzgerald, he think The Iron Giant is playing receiver and always puts it 20 feet above and beyond the receiver. It's most evident when they're down late in these playoff games, like the Jets one a few years ago, and they're trying to mount a comeback. 5 yard pass, 8 yard pass, 7 yard run, 6 yard pass, 9 yard run, 8 yard pass...

He paid Danny Amendola $8,500,000 million in cash during the 2013 year and that resulted in ZERO receptions in the biggest game of the year. Overall Amendola is the #26 highest paid WR in the NFL on average and Gronkowski is in the top 5 for highest paid TEs in the NFL.

Kraft also pays the highest paid inmate in the nation’s correctional system.

Comparisons like this are why people say Pats fans are stupid.

1) The Pats OL didn't go against the Denver OL.
2) The Pats DL didn't go against the Denver DL.

I don't know why the Pats O-line played the way they did. Wendell was constantly turning his back away from Knighton and leaving Mankins solo on him. On two different plays, Knighton slid right by Wendell to put pressure on Brady. On another one Knighton just blew Wendell up. This is why I've said that Wendell needs to be replaced. He's just not that good and he doesn't pick up the late rusher ever.

The Pats D-line got stone-walled by the Denver O-line. I was disappointed by this because Denver was without Clady and Kuper. Not getting pressure on Manning allowed Manning to find the holes in the Pats Defense. And ANY QB would have done the same with the protection Manning was getting.

I am still trying to figure out how Welker wasn't called for PI when he intentionally ran into Talib. It honestly looked like Welker did it on purpose. Especially after the Refs called the one on Hoomanawanui.

Early in his career, Brady seemed to have established himself as one of the great clutch QBs of all time even when he wasn't yet special the rest of the time. Maybe that was his affinity for the kind of offense played in the 2 minute drill. Maybe it was an ability to perform against tired defenses. Maybe it was luck. Maybe it really was him zoning in under pressure. Maybe it was teammates zoning in. Maybe it was never true, and was based on misinterpretation of what we were seeing.

But in any case, it's surely not true NOW. So what happened? Is it Brady's head? Is it the play calling (Pats' and/or opponents')? Is it Brady's teammates? Or is the whole thing just an illusion?

I should add that he's had some legendary comebacks this year, so there's no support for flipping all the way to calling him a choker.

Wow guys....this thread is starting to sound like all the other loser forums out there we complain about. It was an exciting season, they did more with less, they got beat by a better team that will eventually lose in the SB. Again. Did you really think the Pats could beat SF. Or Seattle. Anyway pretty sad that this forum sounds like all the other complainers out there. Sad really.

Maybe you should go back and watch the game again because McCourty wasn't the reason that Manning racked up the yards.

On quite a few of those plays, McCourty couldn't help the CBs because he was playing CB himself due to only having 2 or 3 healthy receivers. On some others, the WR got open on the CB before getting deep enough to get safety help. McCourty wasn't his usual self today (and that's understandable given the circumstances), but he had an absolutely remarkable season.

Safety - The Pats safeties are actually a good group. Definitely the 2nd to last place I'd spend money or a draft pick for the Pats Defense with LB being the last.



DE - A group of Chandler Jones, Michael Buchanon, Rob Ninkovich, and Andre Carter is actually a good group.



DT/NT - This is where the Pats need to focus, imho. They desperately need someone who can start to take over for Vince Wilfork at NT. I think that Chris Jones makes a great 3-Tech guy next to the NT on the left side. Siliga, imho, makes a great reserve NT, but I don't see him as 3-Tech guy or a starting NT. Vellano is probably best as a reserve 3-Tech guy.



CB - The Pats need someone to replace Talib in terms of depth. I honesly believe that Ryan and Dennard have the ability to be staring corners in the league. People forget that Ryan is a rookie and that Dennard missed a bunch of time with injuries. The next CB has to be someone who can play OUTSIDE, not at the Star. The Pats need to keep Arrington in the slot because he's so horrible outside.

I agree that Dennard and Ryan are really good, but I don't think you want either to be your top corner. We saw how Dennard matched up against Demaryius today, and it was not ideal. You'd like to have someone like Talib who can go 1 on 1 with any receiver in the league. Talib isn't the guy you want though since he can't hold up to the physical toll of an NFL season,

It's difficult to blame the CBs in this one. Hard to cover 4 elite receivers (J Thomas included) when your front seven doesn't get within five feet of Manning. It was a nightmare performance by Dennard but he is physically outmatched in every way by Thomas. It's not really his fault that he can't cover him one-one-one (see Hobbs, Ellis cerca Feb 2008).



If they don't think that Mallett is a legit successor to TB, they better draft a QB high next year because the end may be getting near.

Yeah, I wouldn't even blame Dennard. He just can't cover Demaryius Thomas. I hope the Pats understand this going into the offseason, and we don't get a redux of 2008-2009's "Ellis Hobbs is our #1 corner" experience.

• Buchanan can't stay on the field due to performance.
• Carter hasn't produced much (I noticed one drawn hold today).
• The Pats have shown that they'd like to play 3 DEs at once in a NASCAR-like package.

So there's room for more depth, and not necessarily just by developing Buchanan.

I do think that they'll go heavy on the DTs -- no put intended -- next season, and hence may go light on DEs to balance. But it's not as if they're well-set at the DE position.

I think it's just a skill that he doesn't really have, and unfortunately that robs the offense of a dimension that you really kinda need in the playoffs. He'll occasionally make a gorgeous deep pass (like the one to Vereen vs. Houston last season), but he's just way too inconsistent on throws of 20+ yards. He rarely hits his receiver in stride.

I think it's more likely that he was never a very good deep passer (that's what the eye test says), but Moss made him look good. Makes sense, Moss made a career out of looking guys like Gus Frerotte look good throwing the deep ball.

Moss certainly adjusted on a lot of deep throws. Indeed, that was probably a big part of what made him special.

Dennard is a second year player and Ryan a rookie. By their 4th year, respectively, both could be elite defensive backs.

The flight of Brady's longball always had this weird rising trajectory to it as opposed to a rainbow you see from other QBs.......which I think explains a lot of his issues with accuracy in that area.

He was drafted into MLB as a catcher, and that's exactly the flight of the baseball you want from catcher to second baseman....maybe that's where it comes from. Who knows.

I think his arm strength is still there, it shows on those short to intermediate darts through coverage. When that starts to go then the end is likely near.

Not one of those 2011 performances on D was worse than today yardage wise.
