The need for Gonzo is glaring..

You sure only 6?...
I'd rather the defense have it's struggles now and show signs of improvement in areas especially the secondary as the season goes on... remember the 2019 defense.. near dominant to start the season.. and faded after that Ravens loss..

I want Marty out there with Spillane. I don't care that they are both 220-230. The DL is getting it done for the most part against the run. I am willing to concede the run against the LB's if they get through the DL but with Mapu...they absolutely should be better in coverage. So conceding the run at ILB won't hurt much because it's already happening. Bringing in Mapu "should" help with coverage however.
or perhaps Spillane and Gibbens.

I don't that want Ellis out there on other than running downs.

Might help with tackling at ILB...but I think coverage is more of an issue right now...which is why I prefer Mapu out there much more often. I think Mapu just had 7 snaps on defense against the Fins. Maybe Mapu will fail starting next to Spillane or Gibbens....but we won't know unless they try.

Gibbens is less of a liability in pass coverage compared to Elliss and wouldn't lose all that much against the run.

To me, it is somewhat of a no-brainer to give Gibbens more reps at ILB.

To me, replacing Ellis with Mapu is a major tradeoff, losing against run and gaining in pass coverage.

They already lost against the run at ILB. I'd rather them fix one issue (pass coverage) then nothing at all.

Please state our run stats for the last 2 games.

We have not lost against the run at ILB. We haven't lost against the run at all.

Putting in Mapu against run is simply volunteering for poorer performance against the run.

I don’t know if you have been watching the games or not…but tackling has been an issue at ILB. As in failing to tackle the person with the ball.

Agree

Tackling has been an issue for our ILB's.

Your position is that we have "lost against the run" at ILB. No matter how poor the tackling has been, we have NOT lost against the run. Any we should not try to be worse by weakening our primary ILB run defense.

Ok

fair enough.

We disagree.

You want Mapu as a primary run defender. I do not. That IS the role of an ILB.

If Ellis is to be demoted, I'm fine with that. But NOT for Mapu. Bring in Gibbens until Tavai is back. Or let one of the OLB's play some inside.

I have never said this.

If Mapu is in the game at ILB, he is a primary run defender. That is the #1 job of an ILB.

Disagree. I think it's everyone's job to run defend...especially the DL who I would consider most responsible for the current team.

Agreed here. I'm happy to see Marty who was a mystery man in NE for a bit. He absolutely seems to be a player with more playing time hopefully can become what the defense sorely needs in speedy coverage LB.. he has the ball skills
I think we will see more of Mapu and Dugger...focusing on coverage. Roaming 5-10 yards deep.

I hope so. Ellis is a solid player who works hard.. but I'd rather see Marty next to Spillane.. Dugger and Woodson whom I think is getting better with each game.

As we've all seen through the first few weeks of patiots Football sitting at 1-1.. while the defense as a unit has been productive and leads the NFL in sacks... as we go along here and the match ups.. it's glaring how bad Gonzo's presence is missed.. those Big plays would be minimal with Gonzo locking up the opposing teams best WR..

When will we see him? Will he play in 2025-26? Is this a business decision he's making? Hamstrings are complex injuries especially for a all pro CB.. did he have a setback? Who knows!

Does anyone think Gonzo will play this season? The need for him is so obvious
The need to move on from him, is also glaring.

There really isn’t a downgrade from Eliss against the run

I think we will see Mapu for sure. I am not sure why we have not seen more of him already. It seems like Vrabel's group likes their own guys too much. Spillane, and even Elliss more so, have been disasters in coverage. Mapu will be much better.

Having said that, there seems to be something off with Duggar. I am not sure what it is, but he is out of place a lot.

Elliss works hard, but is not solid. Elliss reminds me of Pop - both are fast and try hard but do not seem to understand where to be or what is going on around them. I think we will see both Pop and Elliss' playing time reduced and not recover for the rest of the year.
