Hoping that Cannon’s calf injury will improve, because I’m not too high on Waddle. He’s a weak link on that OL.

Waffle must be the best that is out there for depth.

I don’t blame them for leaving, and I don’t blame the Pats for sticking to their value system and allowing them to take better offers. It’s just unfortunate that the replacements like Hill and Wynn are injured. Hopefully, Michel can get going, and quickly.

No way that Solder and Amendola were worth those deals, and they sure as hell weren’t getting them here. The only one that I can see being on the border with was Lewis. I would’ve liked to have seen him kept, although again, we are forced to let players walk each and every year. It’s just part of the process.

Low risk high reward player. If Gordon is still interested in playing football it will be beneficial for both sides. He is extremely talented undoubtedly but I am not sure he is smart enough to take the chance. Pats is his last resort.

I just assumed he didn't want to talk about it per his normal MO and used "it's not official yet" as an excuse to avoid the subject.

I think a player has to pass a physical before it is official. I also think BB is barred from talking about players on other teams. When the trade is official after passing the physical, and the player is on his team, then the rules allow BB to talk about it. I think reporters say the deal is filed at the league office, or some similar phrase, which does not make it official because the player's physical is not finished (but it sounds official).

I have never read the NFL league rules so I am guessing a bit based on my experience and what would be reasonable.

Think of it like a post by Deus, Andy, Joker, DaBruinz, Captain Marshmallow or others. The post sounds official but it has not passed any final test to prove it's wholesome. And if you comment on it too quickly, all hell might break out.

Initially have said since this was proposed no f...ing way would they sign Gordon...

Now it happened can easily accept this and find it surprising that he stayed within then AFC after hearing all day this would not happen..

Do not believe coming to NE is some sort of panacea that will automatically cure Gordon, but pretty sure the Pats will insure that support systems are in place to help support him if he is on a quest for sobriety.. addiction is a bytch and it takes more than a change of scenery to make things different...

What is very helpful for Gordon is there are some very strong, principled men in the locker room who can support him if he wants to be supported..

This is the exact flaw that people who dislike this deal don’t understand. The protection was actually decent, but the Jags easily covered the receivers and double or tripled Gronk. That stressed the line because TB held the ball. Gordon doesn’t just “take the top off”, he bleeds coverage away from the others. Thus, guys like Dorsett and Edelman can roam more freely and get open faster underneath. Gronk won't have a LB playing high to deal with.

It’s a trickle down effect that will make everyone better. Period.

I mostly agree about the coverage on Gronk & Hogan by JAX. It's worth noting that the Texans doubled Hogan a lot, too - helps explain Hogan's 4 for 10, 53-yard performance so far this season.

I also agree about Gordon's likely effect on coverages. He should have an immediate impact on coverages (with a trickle-down effect on run-defenses) based on reputation alone, even if he's not targeted right away.

However, Brady wasn't holding the ball very often against JAX (Romo mentioned this) - or against the Texans. His average time-to-throw in 2017 was 2.62 seconds. Against HOU, it was 2.4 seconds. Against the Jags it was 2.35 seconds.

From his perspective ... kinda huge upgrade. Not sure but if I was stuck in Cleveland, I might be getting buzzed on regular basis too. The fact that he did weed and alcohol to me is a positive rather than just alcohol... Shows intelligence.

Sony Michel actually came out "clean", too. He had at least one solid pass-pro block that I saw (I think). In any case, it makes me wonder if Burkhead's "disappearance" for the 2nd & 3rd quarters may have had something to do with pass-pro.

It seems to me that, if Gordon is worth having active for nine games, he'll be valuable enough to have active for 10.

I'm not sure that the Pats can actually allow him to "walk" in 2019. As I understand it, Gordon is an RFA for 2019, due to all the missed time.

If this is correct, as an RFA, the Pats could refuse to make a tender offer, however, IIRC, that has the same effect as cutting him, which would make him a street free agent and not part of the Comp Pick formula.

2019 RFA tenders should be approximately $4.4M for the 1st-round tender and $3.1M for the 2nd-round tender (depends on the amount of the cap increase).

I do not buy for a second that a conditional 5th was the highest offer out there. I mean this deal basically gives up a Browns 7th and Gordon to take him off their hands. They traded him to a direct competitor for the AFC Championship too.

Dorseys former AFC employer treated him rather shabbily at the end. Dorsey basically built that team you see now. Any Brown worth his salt never wants to see Pittsburgh win another Lombardi.

Bell is still out of the field spreading stench in the team, Brown is mentioning something about his dissatisfaction and a trade , Big Ben is iffy in his playing - all that does not sound good for the Steelers.

This will get interesting if Gordon can make connections with his veteran teammates. Cleveland has been such a revolving door of coaches and players, there is no stability there. It's a leadership test the Patriots can manage, especially now that they need to look at themselves in that 1-1 mirror they hung on the wall on Sunday.

I'm skeptical regarding Gordon's current abilities. But it's a no-risk deal for the Patriots. If it doesn't work out they basically drop like 40 spots from the end of the 5th to the start of the 7th round, which is really nothing. But if it does work out the Patriots offense would benefit tremendously from this.
