Poor Titans; knocking off a big bad playoff contender and they get no respect.

Just read this on Rotoworld:
Tim Tebow - New York Jets - 2012 Player Profile - Rotoworld.com
Tim Tebow reportedly feels "misled" by the Jets after they bypassed him to give the Week 16 starting job to Greg McElroy.
When the Jets traded for him, Tebow was promised that he would get a shot to play if Mark Sanchez was injured and/or ineffective. In fact, it was reported last March that Tebow chose the Jets over the Jags because he saw a clearer path to the starting job in New York. He's not the type to make waves publicly, so expect Tebow to continue to play the "good soldier" role. The Jets' trade for Tebow makes less sense with each passing week.

If that's true then Tebow is dumber than I thought. Rex Ryan had been irrationally loyal to Sanchez up to that point, and the only QB that could have stood in Tebow's way in Jacksonville was Blaine freaking Gabbert. As decent as Chad Henne has been this season, I still think he would have been placed behind Tebow on the depth chart. Personally I thought it was the ONLY destination that made sense for Tebow's career and for the Jaguars franchise. Perhaps that will be revisited when Tebow is eventually cut this offseason.
This was all pretty predictable. In JAX a new owner and rabid fan base wanted him. A lame duck coaching staff clinging to a QB they drafted didn't. In NY the owner wanted to make a splash and reportedly the coaching staff was so smitten with the ever present aura over dinner they typically made promises they could never keep, let alone after they actually witnessed him practice. Sanchez contract extension alone dictated that. But the tipping point was Tebow's handlers saw an untapped marketing platform. And not being football oriented they advised him to grab ahold of it.
This is misleading because, while this frees up "a lot of cap space", you have to consider that they are already at 141, so if this does free up $28mm, that brings them down to 113. So, they have roughly 7-10mm in cap space going into 2013.
But, you didn't account for the losses they'll need to account for, starting with those three players, then the free agent losses, who are already accounted for in the cap savings:
Likely Cuts- 3
Jason Smith
Calvin Pace
Bart Scott
Unrestricted- 12
Yeremiah Bell
Mike DeVito
Nick Folk
Shonn Greene
Dustin Keller
Laron Landry
Aaron Maybin
Brandon Moore
Chaz Schilens
Matt Slauson
Bryan Thomas
Jay Richardson
Restricted- 4
Jeff Cumberland
Austin Howard
Joshua Mauga
Tanner Purdum
So, there's 19 players to replace on, being very optimistic, $10M in cap space. I'm sure they'll try to do some maneuvering and push back contracts into later years, but this is no longer a place where a veteran is willing to do a deal like that. Moreover, it's unlikely current players would be willing to mess around with a clown franchise and restructure. If they cut Sanchez, they'd have about half of that cap space. The QBs you mentioned? That's a pipe dream.
Do the math, it's roughly 500k per player at those positions.

Wow!!!
As a Raiders fan, I thought we had it bad.
$12.853M cap hit for 2013 if the Jets keep him. $17.1M cap hit if they cut him and absorb all of the loss, or $12.353M if they cut him and roll $4.8M of the loss from his signing bonus into 2014. An $8.9M cap hit if they trade him, plus whatever portion of his salary they have to absorb.
Poor Greg, he was my draft backup QB binky who landed with the Jets because Mallett fell in our lap (whatever that means...). Very Bradyeque kid coming out of college, cerebral, reads defenses, Saban protoge, who knows what 2 years mired in a circus has done. Have mixed emotions about his performance as he still has some backup upside here if they were to part with him...
Great details. Sad how facts ruin thoughtless speculation.
Just another example, here's word up from Vick whom the OP speculated signing with the Jests...
Michael Vick still wants to start, might wait out for Chip Kelly - NFL.com
"sources also said Vick would not want to join the New York Jets if Mark Sanchez still is the starter, but he would consider signing with the Jets if he were paid more than Sanchez, making it clear that Vick was the No. 1 quarterback on the depth chart."
Now where does all this funny money come from for the QB position to sign Vick???
Bottom line is that the Jets who already have no depth will have gaping holes in 2013 at many starting positions as they cut players $ to make the cap. A team in this dire position would be crazy to make big cap moves at the QB position.
