The "interesting cuts from around the league" thread

Bills cut Vince Young.

I suppose that was a given when they traded for Tarvaris Jackson. Interesting that they had not one, but two veteran quarterbacks in training camp (Tyler Thigpen being the other) - and still felt compelled to go out and trade for another backup QB. I thought for sure that Jackson had zero trade value, and that's before considering his contract.

That doesn't say much for the future NFL careers of Vince Young or Thigpen when a team decides they not only consider Jackson to be an upgrade, but are so desperate to not go with either one of those two that they will make that trade in order to avoid keeping them around as their backup.

No kidding. Talk about throwing a bucket of ice water on someone's ego.

Broncos releases Lonie Paxton

I'm interested.

Eh, if Aiken was struggling sure, but he's been doing fine so why risk starting over on your LS this late in camp? I know Paxton was here before, but even as a LS a guy eventually loses a step (or a... snap? I guess?).

NFL rosters need to be at 53 players by 9 p.m. this Friday. There may be "Slim Pickins" for 2, maybe 3 days, but then the fun begins.

When did Cliff Clavin do westerns?

I looked up when I saw this one too.

I don't know about you, but I was of the impression that a number of snaps of Friday were more than a little off center. The first FG was a great save by Metzko, and a couple of punts had to be moved for. Someone who has the DVD and wants to speed thru can confirm.

Paxton left for perhaps the biggest LS contract in the league. It could just be that they have a guy that just made him too expensive.

This from Bedard following the Bucs game:

Danny Aiken’s snaps continue to be sloppy. Wouldn’t be surprised if the Patriots start looking around elsewhere. …

Aikens has had a number of snaps that were high and a bit off-target. I'm not saying replace the guy, but I have noticed it.

Old friend Antuan Molden was a first-round cut by the NY Giants

I liked Eric Norwood in college. He could really get to the QB. I guess it never translated to the NFL

Well, the Pats gotta sign Davon Drew. If there is one position the Pats are painfully thin at, it has to be TE.

I would give Alex Barron a look because I think OT may be the Pats' thinest position. Then they can Cannon back to guard where he should play.

Jones used to be a stud in coverage in his Browns days, but that was a while back. I don't know if he has that type of play in him anymore.
