The Epic Season of Peyton Manning

Manning should win MVP.

The guy is a class act and a great player.

I think a few of his offensive linemen after certain playoff games would probably disagree with the first part of the second sentence.

No, he's a great player.

Google "Jamie Ann Naughright" to find out what a class act he isn't, or at least wasn't in college

More often than not Manning says all the right things.

Is he perfect? No and neither is Brady. Brady has gone off on players plenty of times on the field of play or the sideline.

'Tis true. But I can't recall one instance of Brady throwing his teammates under the bus for failures in big games, though.

Oh no, Manning was arse in College? Do you mean a 20 year old Jock acted like he owned the University?

The Manning hate is ridicoulos. BB and Brady have the utmost respect for him.

No, I mean he held down a female trainer, with an MD degree mind you,

while he put his junk on her face, in front of witnesses,

then paid tidy sums of cash to cover it up (as did the University on behalf of their police force who would not follow up on the criminal complaint that was immediately made),

then paid more tidy sums of cash years later when a judge ruled that he had violated court orders by writing/publishing a book that gave a dismissive & inaccurate watered-down version of the incident that portrayed it as a teabagging prank.

He's a hall-of-fame player, no question. The issue being debated is whether he is also a "class act"

I don't understand the insecurities a lot of posters have in regards to Manning.

A few weeks ago I came up with my logic for who should win the MVP.

At the Time Peyton was the clear cut favorite and Brady was being ignored which I felt was ridiculous and I said that if you ignore the injury and come back that it would be hard to say Peyton was having a better year but I also admitted it was mute at the time because I felt their stats were close enough that either was worthy so I surmised whoever finished ahead of the other should win.

Then a week or two went by and AP continued to close in on 2,000 and possibly even the all time record. Which made think where would the Vikings be without AP? Probably 2-14, Where would the Broncos be without Manning? Well they were in the playoffs without him last year, Where would the Pats be without Brady? probably not in the playoffs but I would be surprised if they still werent around .500.

So here is how I think it should shake out.

1) If AP breaks the rushing record he should earn MVP
2) If AP passes 2,000 he should be highly considered for it and I might still give it to him.
3) If AP gets slowed by 2 tougher defenses coming up and fails to cross 2,000 then right now I feel it should go to Peyton based on stats and the record of his team.
4) However if AP fails to cross 2,000 and Peyton loses an easy one to Clevland or KC then it should be Brady's.

He shouldn't win MVP. He has gotten his stats against horrendous defenses. On Sunday the Broncos had their best win of the season, and Peyton wasn't even their best offensive player, he had a very pedestrian evening. Brady has had 8 total games against the top 10 defenses in the league in terms of passer rating against, Manning's had 3. Manning's had 7 games against the bottom 10 defenses in the league in that same category, Brady's had 2. With that considered, Tom has accounted for 34 total TDs and 6 total turnovers, while Manning has 31 scores, and has turned it over 12 times. Brady has thrown for more yards as well. The only stat in which Manning has a distinct advantage is completion %, which is moot, because the Patriots have punted less than the Broncos and have scored about 9 more points per game. Also factor in that Brady has played 4 games without Gronk, 6 without Hernandez, the OL has been a revolving door, and Welker has been banged up for much of the season, and this shouldn't even be a contest. Manning will win because his team will end up with a better record than the Patriots, but that doesn't even come close to telling the whole story, when you consider the absurd difference in schedules.

I don't understand the insecurities a lot of posters have in regards to Manning.

The point I was addressing has nothing to do with his career greatness or even the validity of his MVP candidacy. It had to do with whether he deserves the widely-held view of being labeled a "class act"

No college player today could get away with his "incident" and not have it be national news that would affect draft status and reputation, deservedly.

Top 10 all-time QB, #2 of this century so far, but not a class act IMO.

For the life of me I can't understand why everyone is paranoid about going to Denver. Manning does his best choking against another QB of the same caliber.
He dosen't have the same arm he use to. And the Pats secondary is still better than anything they've had in the last 5 years.
Besides when has Denver stopped the Pats from scoring here or there?

I wouldn't be surprised to see a AFC championship at home against the Colts.

Well, that settles it then.

Mannings reputation is tarnished forever now.

Id take Manning in a heart beat if the Pats didnt have Brady.

I could really care less what he did back in college. I will bet that the folks criticizing him werent choir boys themselves sewing their wild oats back in the day.

No insecurities here. I just took issue with referring to a guy who, in public, has thrown teammates under the bus for losses which were largely his fault a "class act".

peyton has been completely epic in terms of being on a new team after missing a full year of football

his numbers given what happened, are pretty amazing

i thought his neck would not hold up at all, i'm pretty shocked at his numbers

that said, brady's the mvp between those two guys

he has better numbers

That was a long time ago. The Mannings are whiny bunch by nature, but he's matured over the years. He's definitely a class act.

oh and brady also gets underrated because of who his head coach is

one of the greatest ever

something peyton never had, that's why people like to give peyton more credit than brady

it's not right to do so, but yeah BB is one of the best all time

there's no debate there

The Patriots absolutely can go into Denver and crush the Broncos. The Pats have faced some tough teams down the stretch, and they'll have a healthy Gronk. Denver has faced one worthy adversary since week 5, and even Baltimore isn't the same team they were at the beginning of the season, with all the injuries they've had. I don't think Denver is battle-tested enough, and having a first round bye won't do them any good on that regard.

Besides when has Denver stopped the Pats from scoring here or there?

Last 4 games against Denver:
Oct 11, 2009, at Den - 305 yds, 17 pts, 18 first downs
Dec 18, 2011, at Den - 451 yds, 41 pts, 26 first downs
Jan 14, 2012, vs Den - 509 yds, 45 pts, 31 first downs
Oct 7, 2012, vs Den - 444 yds, 31 pts, 35 first downs

Average: 428 yds, 33.5 pts, 28 first downs

That game in 2009 featured a small number of players that are currently on this Broncos' defense, so the last 3 games are more relevant. In those last 3 games, here's the averages:

468 yds, 39 pts, 31 first downs

I'm not saying they'd roll over Denver, but they really do seem to have the kind of offense that Denver has trouble stopping.

I think the pats should go in, if they go in, to denver a few days early. I think people underestimate the altitude difference. It takes a day or two to adjust even if you don't think you're really feeling it, you are.
