The Cassell fallacy

18-1 to 11-5 and out of the playoffs was what it was. I think most people were delighted to just have a winning season.

We went 16-0 in the regular season to 11-5 with Cassel, so we lost five more games with Cassel than we did with Brady. Just basing it off that, hypothetically speaking, if we were 11-5 the year prior and lost five more games, we would have been 6-10 with Cassel and that seems about right for an "average" NFL team being quarterbacked by Matt.

I think a lot of people fail to realize even without Brady, that team was still stacked, absolutely stacked, and there aren't many quarterbacks in this league that wouldn't have finished above .500 with that roster.

Transition tag him and you get a first rounder plus. The QB cost is no more then a single franchsie QB, for one year,

Let him go and you get a 3rd rounder in comp pick.

Brady has at most two more good years, Then he can choose to split time, or retire.

Or are you one of those like the Unitas fans in Baltimore who think he can still play while drawing Social Security? And be better than Flacco...

Who are you referring to? Mallett is under contract for 2014.

Let him go and get a 3rd rounder (at best). Transition him and you get nothing because no one will take him.

Whuh huh..??!?

All true - and the fact they had a lot of trouble beating good teams in 2008 clearly illustrated the downgrade at QB and the system which that QB was running...

But let's not forget they did win something like 5 of their last 6 games including beating the soon to be NFC Champs by 40 points. That is nothing to sneeze at.

Would have been fun to see them make the playoffs even if they probably wouldn't have gotten very far....

Other than the Steelers, which NFL team was demonstrably better than the Pats when the 2008 playoffs started?
