The case for Jeanty at 4, Go for the homerun!! LFG

Jeanty’s film screams Laurence Maroney.

He’d also be the 3rd highest paid RB in the NFL if picked at #4. It’s not happening.
I dunno, I think he'll be pretty good...for two years.

This isn't the 2018 draft, when all we're missing is a RB who can carry the load, and take over when asked to, in order to win a title. That's why the Sony Michel pick was fine, in my mind. He did what he could do, carried us in the playoffs after a good regular season, and then he dealt with injuries the rest of his career. And he *did* have a lot of tread on his tires still.

Taking any running back at 4, instantly making him the 3rd highest paid RB in the league, btw, like we don't have other holes to fill, is absolutely batshit crazy.

When Maye gets his career ended early because of horrible pass protection, it'll be so nice to know that they have an All Pro RB. It'll be like the Rams with ****erson. Can't throw because of no QB, so every play will be a running play. Yep, that's won a lot of SB's. NOT!!!

Yep. LFG down the tubes with a destroyed potential Franchise QB because they couldn't pass protect him. Get Kolton Miller for the next 3 years (giving us enough time to get a young long term LT within the next 2 drafts), and hoping that we find a solid LG (either on the roster or in the draft), THEN Jeanty would make sense. MAYE NEEDS TO BE PROTECTED! If we trot out the same situation at LT as we did last year, we're SCREWED!!!

I’m not making a one for one comparison here, so let’s not have some numbnut here say that I have… because I’m not. But we are talking about the 4th overall pick.

What made Barry Sanders dangerous… and why Barry? 5’8” 210 pounds, that’s why. If you’re talking about taking a RB that high you have to compare him to a player the same height, size and dynamic enough to go that high in the draft.

Barry was fast. Jeanty didn’t workout, but was radar clocked during games at 22.5 mph, which is comparable to Olympic sprinter Noah Lyles' top speed of 23.17 mph. In short… the guy has 4.2 type speed. That’s Barry Sanders type speed. When you’re 5’8” and hard to see, you can hide behind your blockers, when a hole appears 4.2 speed is unique speed in a league full of fast people.

Barry was strong. Barry regularly benched and squatted more than his offensive lineman on Oklahoma State. He squatted in the 800 pound range. So when you wonder why he was hard to take down despite not being overly large or why he could stiff arm much larger guys… that’s why. Strength and low center of gravity. Jeanty is strong. His strength and conditioning coach said he was pound for pound the strongest player he’d ever coached and he used to coach for Alabama. Jeanty squatted in that 800 pound range.

Agilty and explosion, again unique type athleticism. The single best rushing season in NCAA history is Barry Sanders Heisman winning season. Jeanty is the same size and shape as Barry, he came within 27 yards of Sanders single season rushing record of 2628 yards. Jeanty is 7th all time in single season TD’s, Barry’s still #1.

Jeanty is not Barry Sanders, it took him more rushing attempts… but if you’re second best to Barry… you’re an all pro every year. Slightly less than Barry is still a HOF player.

What does having a RB who can take it to the house on every possession do for Drake Maye? It changes the way opposing defenses defend. They have to account for every touch because 4.2 speed is game changing speed… it tilts the field.

Take it for what it’s worth…. but he’s arguably the best player in the entire draft.

I definitely like the idea of getting the Raiders to think the Patriots are going to take Jeanty at 4.

People need to slow their rolls with regards to the RB position. Everyone looking for the next Saquon as if that's the path to a Super Bowl.

A great running back is a great addition to an already-great team, as Philly proved this past year. But let us not forget the NY Giants had Saquon for 6 years and only once won more than 6 games.

I was open to this until a pundit pointed out on a podcast that RB isn’t a wise position to pick high because the position has been financially devalued. #4 will be paid around $8MM/ yr…a RB would immediately be a top 10 paid player in the league so you don’t get the “rookie bargain” like at WB,WR, T, Edge.

Interesting nugget.
Two of the top teams have Henry and Barkley. They ignored the new trend and it paid off for the Eagles.

The Ravens would have been in the AFCC if they had given Henry more carries.

Rushing the ball and playing defense will win a lot of games.

Yeast Infection dont like RB and the Felcher agrees.

Agreed BUT…what’s another common truth about both those teams?

Excellent O-lines.

What did Saquan look like in NY behind that line?

Pats will go as far as the line they can build.

It's true, the Giants never did anything with Barkley and he repeatedly got dinged up trying to make something out of nothing.

That being said the Giants didn't have a QB, the ability to pass well or threaten opponents with the pass, nor a good offensive line.

The Pats have Maye and are one offensive tackle away from a pretty good offensive line. Different situations entirely IMO.

Not saying Jeanty is Barkley. He isn’t ….but adding a serious threat in backfield would help Maye immensely. Get the LT at 38. More decent left tackles in this draft than elite rbs

Agreed, but would you agree that running the ball keeps the defense honest and benefits the OL?

When Pass blocking the OL takes a defensive position awaiting contact. When Run blocking the OL delivers punishment.

Totally agree about building a stud OL.

You have to have linemen who can block, even if you're just running the ball. And you can't run right on every single play (Assuming Onwenu doesn't come into camp fat again).

Truth we currently don't have anyone that can run block on the left side of the OL and that is one of the reasons I don't get the Jeanty at 4 hype. I think he would be an outstanding add to the offense for a better team, but he seems like a luxury and we are not ready for it.

We have Left Guard over to RT assuming health.

Can see this happening... Introducing #77, ashton jeanty!
