The issue is that it isn't about spending. Everyone ahead of them has money to get top talent. It's about getting players to choose you over everyone else. It's not the NFL where you are guaranteed draft picks and guaranteed that some teams lose players because they don't have enough cap money.If you're UNC I think you have to double down on your investment and try to pay for as much talent as you can get. I just don't know enough about college and portals and all to know if that will be enough to turn it around. I think if they do spend then Bill will get things going better though.
It's actually very likely if not guaranteed that he's in a worse spot next year for recruiting than he was in year one. This season there was the mystique that the GOAT coach was coming to college and he could get players NFL ready. This year the entire CFB world views UNC as a massive joke and there's red flags all over the place and with petty grudges against NFL scouts and the whole circus, there's less of a reason to go there.
It's really hard to see any top recruits walking through the door next year and he's also going to be stuck with the QB he just paid a fortune to while the older guy who is better is going to lose eligibility.
