this new rule would effect Mayo's 5 yr deal correct?

signed a five-year, $18.9 million contract. The deal includes $13.8 million guaranteed. 2011: $600,000, 2012: $750,000, 2013: Free Agent

if it is he would be a FA in 2012... am I misunderstanding this clause?

we need to extend the BEAST:rocker:

I don't know the numbers but if the Patriots can sign Mankins, I'm sure they will do whatever they can to keep Mayo for a long time.

but is he a URFA after 4th year ?

This rule only applies to new contracts, not existing ones. regardless, Mayo will be locked up soon, the patriots are around 10 million under the cap, and if they dont spend it by a certain date they have to mail it in the NFLPA for free.

Mayo signed a 5 year rookie deal when he was drafted. Under the new CBA that is no longer an option GOING FORWARD, but is was when he was drafted.

You are taking some heat for your threads. Rightfully by the way. If you want to check on the contract status of any NE player, just click on the link at the top of the page to Miguel's pages...

So he will be URFA in 2012 if I understand u correctly?

we must lock him up soon. a franchise tag would kill cap space in 2012

it is an honest Question... IDC if I get heat. Crumpler should have taught you that.

I will click link.

No. He will be a free agent in 2013. He's under contract. Players in the same draft class as Mayo ho only signed 4 year deals will be free agents in 2012.

Mayo will be here for a long time, he is the consummate BB LB.. smart, athletic, hard worker, leader and just does his job.

TY that was my Q I thought it may have been incorporated into past deals

You have a problem with reading comprehension, too. No, he is not an UFA in 2012. He is under contract through 2012 and would be an UFA in 2013 if he's not signed to an extension or tagged by then...

The new limits on rookie deals ONLY apply to rookies drafted and signed after the old CBA expired...

see my last post jesus Mo get over it. say hi to Crump for me. u rode me good on that 1 but I am:singing:

sign him up long-term now, before we go 19-0 and he wins the defensive player of the year award

Seriously, though, we have the cap room to first take care of Wes, then Jerod

OK, let's get away from the grab ass back and forth.

And SolderKing, you do start threads on subject that info which is readily available if you just look. Not taking sides but some are getting irritated as apparent in several threads.

There are serious football posters here that are serious about the serious nature of football, seriously.

Regarding the new CBA and rookie contract length, I have a question. Am I correct that the length of the contract can be no longer than 4 years, but that a one year fifth year contract can be offered, like an old RFA.

Is that true ? Or if only partially true, does it apply only to First Rounders, or perhaps early First Rounders?

The base length can be no longer than 4 years. However for first rounders only teams have a 5th year option that has to be exercised at the end of their 3rd season. That option is like a tag in that it is based on a set formula (average of the top 10 not including the top 2 players at their position in the league in their 3rd year for top 10 draftees and average of players 13-22 at the position for the rest of the first rounders) and if exercised that money is fully guaranteed for year 5. The player however cannot refuse the option if exercised, so it's not like a tag or tender in that respect. If the option is not exercised they become a UFA at the end of their base 4 year deal.

MLR has a point. It's hard to take your football posts seriously when your other posts are simplistic and based on erroneous assumptions. I don't care, post what you want as far as I'm concerned but everyone here has posters they pay attention to and on the other hand posters like me who cause others to roll their eyes and groan, "Not HIM again. NOW what?" Sometimes if you get feedback from an old-timer it's worth at least asking yourself if it applies before brushing it aside and continuing on.

Why would TSK get heat for asking a question he wants to know an answer too?
