If I recall correctly, a while ago, a poster whose name currently escapes me proclaimed that the suckitude of the Jets was akin to the original Star Wars Trilogy. 2011 was like A New Hope, and 2012 was like The Empire Strikes Back. I pray that 2013 doesn't disappoint. But I'm not sure how it can top this year.
Before I talk about how inspiring the 2012 Jets season was. I want to go back to how satisfying the 2011 Jets suckitude was. The Jets were coming off an AFC championship berth, a playoff win over their biggest enemy, and had presumptions that they'd finally unseat the Pats as the AFC East powerhouse. A good number of mediots were quick to agree with these presumptions. What resulted was them missing the playoffs, while their two biggest adversaries made it to the SB. When I compare the past two Jets seasons, I consider the fact that 2011 featured crushed expectations.
2012 managed to top it, however. True, a higher degree of Jets suckitude was expected this time around, but somehow, the expectations were exceeded. Going 6-10 wasn't the surprising part, it's the road they took to achieve that record. Who foresaw the loss of their greatest asset to a season ending injury? Who foresaw The Bumble and the rest of the Thanksgiving Night Curbstomp? Who foresaw Greg Elroy entering the Jets QB ****storm? The final record isn't to be ignored. It has put the Jets in a perfect position. They aren't good enough to even be considered playoff contenders anymore, but they aren't bad enough that they can be gifted with a franchise savior. I'm not sure how it can get worse for them.
