It's the new wave created by Rex Ryan. He had to come up with something after BB did his whole double TE thing.

It's called gameday conditioning. If it's a pass happy opponent the entire team will go on a strict lemon water diet for the week to shed anywhere from 10-45 pounds. If it's a ground and pound opponent then the team goes on a heavy dose of protein and fat.

I hear Rexy prefers ground and pound week.

Thats what I was thinking. How could the medical training staff sign off on this? But I am even more baffled as to why this would even make sense from a football perspective. Can Maybin suddenly now hold an edge because he gained 20 pounds? Is he now going to shed guard blocks to make tackles? The guy has one move: run around the tackle. How is that at changed? I guess it would be one thing if he permanently gained the weight and was trying to adjust his play style, but that is not what they are asking. Stupid, stupid Jets.

Yup, thats right Aaron Maybin is going to fluctuate his weight by +20LBS depending on who the opponent is that week.

A quick calculation from a sceptical Jets fan:

This is one of the dumbest ideas I've ever heard. I honestly hope they try it, except that then I'll have to start seriously worrying about Maybin's health.

At some point, they're just going to have to accept that he is what he is, and he'll always be an enormous liability against the run.

I think the Jets have only scratched the surface of this Maybin weight fluctuation thing and need to fully embrace the possibilities.

Forget about dropping/gaining 20 measly pounds, the Jets need to think much bigger (or smaller): Depending on the opponent, they could have Maybin bulk up to Wilfork territory one week, then drop down to Ed Reed size the next. Whatever they need, just stuff or starve Maybin based on the next opponent.

Sanchez left SUNY-Cortland yesterday feeling good about how he played in training camp. Asked if he agrees with linebacker Bart Scott’s assessment this week that he can be one of the 10 best quarterbacks in the league, Sanchez did not shy away from it.

The fourth-year quarterback had a strong camp. He showed a command of new offensive coordinator Tony Sparano’s offense, a zip on his throws and leadership in the huddle. Unofficially, Sanchez completed 94-of-180 passes (52.2 percent) during team drills in camp with five passing touchdowns, one rushing touchdown, seven interceptions and was sacked 20 times.

Tebow had an inconsistent camp. His passing seemed to improve as camp went on, but then he had his worst day yesterday, going 2-for-10 with an interception and four sacks. Overall in camp, Tebow unofficially went 53-for-109 (48.6 percent) with two passing touchdowns, three rushing touchdowns, three interceptions and 29 sacks. Jets coach Rex Ryan said Tebow completed around 65 percent of his passes if you add in 7-on-7 drills.
