Hopkins' contract was "cut friendly" ($3 Million dead money with $11 Million in cap savings), so the Texans may have been thinking about dumping him one way or another after all his complaints about his pay. This looks suspiciously like a straight-up salary dump. The Texans gained nearly $10 Million in cap space, a serviceable RB who might pull a Derrick Henry and a 2nd round pick instead of nothing if they just cut him.

The Cardinals get a great WR who seems to disappear in the playoffs and is grumbling about his contract. For them, the money is a wash.

Johnson is a duel threat.

Rookie WRs play on the cheap and Hopkins wanted to cash in. I had him on my fantasy last year and Hopkins disappeared at times.

Yeah I couldn’t agree more....always knew who sanu was....possession guy not big time elite WR....felt 2nd still was good at time because being a bigger body thought he might be big help in RZ.....so far he has been a bust....but he was injured.....see what he can do if healthy this year with realistic expectations

First off, Hopkins is not the best WR in the NFL. Mike Thomas is.

Secondly, Houston can pick up a rookie WR in a deep draft. Look up AJ Brown, DK Metcalf and Terry McLaurin and get acquainted with what they did last season as rookies. Furthermore, David Johnson will pick up some of the receiving work.

Closing, Hopkins wanted a new big contract.
