except its football, not track & field.
Does shaving off a second or so, make him a better receiver. I thought it was more about running routes and catching the ball.

Well by that logic we have to go by his tape, which is really good.

Justin Jefferson senior year v. Vanderbilt. 2 receptions 18 yards

Jamar Chase v the all powerful Georgia Southern 2 receptions 21 yards his senior year

They both seem to be OK
Difference was tet was shut down in double coverage... by northern arizona

the jefferon/chase games im sure you cherry picked because of stats... hmmm... did you actually watch them?
im guessing not

vs vanderbilt... that was the jamarr chase 229 yd 4 td game
vs georgia southern, chase just wasn't targeted... he was open the whole game,,, joe brady just didnt ring up his number that much

so... back to Tet and his 2/11 performance vs northern arizona...

Shaving off a second would make him the fastest nan who ever lived
But your point is valid. Training to run a 40, which is heavily based on getting out of a stance no WR ever lines up in, doesn’t make you a better football player.

he'd be gad-damned forrest gump if he was that fast...

4.48 vs. 4.53 is actually a pretty significant difference in the world of 40 times.
That would be .05 of a difference over 40 yards though…or .0125/10 yards…..

So you watched an Arizona vs Northern Arizona game?

Here's an interesting comparison:

Campbell was already falling in mock drafts because of the rumors about his arm length. Had he shown up and his arms measured above 34 then he'd probably be locked in at 4. He didn't but Tet seemingly answered his doubters today and now all they have to grasp to is laser vs hand times.

You're missing the point. Tet on tape beat the guys he was against and was catching wide open.

The knock against him was competition and the theory that he'd test slow at the combine and it would prove he was a mirage who would need to catch contested catches. It was typical draft FUD. And frankly most of it was Pats fans comparing him to Harry.

Well he didn't run slow. So now that the pearl clutching was unfounded we can evaluate his tape for what it was and it was a guy who was winning his match ups while also having great size for his position and having the physical profile you would want to create mismatches.

This was a case of the "yeah but" being held against him and it now being unfounded. Not a case of a guy the tape said we should worry about and grasping at straws over the first bit of a contradictory evidence.
He looks like a 4.6+ guy to me and I personally don't see impressive acceleration. The talent of the opponents DBs matters and he largely beat up on second tier programs/rosters.

I don’t think it’s fair to assume he would run a laser 4.6+. Literally all the reports have him hand timed under 4.6. His tape puts him in the top 5. He’s top 5 on nearly all big boards. He was expected to drop only because people assumed he would not run or run a 4.6+. That didn’t happen, so he would be a fine choice at #4.
You are ignoring years and years of evidence that hand-timed 40s are consistently slower than laser-timed 40s by a significant margin. If multiple scouts have him hand-timed between 4.53 and 4.59 come in all likelihood that translates to a combine laser timed run a 4.6+. There is a reason that he chose to run only at his pro day and then run only one 40. This is all planned by his agent. The 4.48 was clearly propaganda, leaked by his agent.

He is no doubt a better prospect than Harry but they would be crazy to take him in the top 10 with this 40 time.

You can't leave Maye high and dry another year on offense and expect him to develop. We've been doing this "let's keep going defense because we know how to identify talent there" and the offense has suffered and it just isn't working out.

We can't draft a second rookie QB in the last 5 years and spend another year not giving him anything. It's complete insanity.
You don't need to over draft a WR with warts and expect success. Im a firm believer in drafting the best talent as opposed to need.

I was not a fan of the Polk pick last year. At the position they were in with all the top teir WRs and OTs gone, I felt Cooper Dejean or Fiske were the best available talent.

The Pats forced the Polk pick and doubled dipped with Baker. They also drafted 2 Oline in rds 3 and 4.

How did reaching for need in last years draft solve our offensive woes?

Look if the FO views Tet, Campbell or another offensive player as an elite talent I'm all for it. I just dont see the elite talent personally

Speaking as someone who is just going from the scouting reports and not being a draftnick, there are a lot of things I like about this guy.

He is a great route runner. This is huge for a McDaniels' offense. I would assume it would still be the case even if McDaniels changes and modernize his offense.

He has great hands. That right there should end any Harry comparisons.

He seems to be really good at changing directions. This will help with any speed issues because he can shake defenders by a quick comeback or shift in his route.

He is really good after the catch and hard to tackle.

Now I have no idea if that makes him worthy of the 4th overall pick. He certainly wouldn't have been last year with Harrison Jr and Nabors in the draft. But as Barth said in the video this year's draft is this year's draft and cannot be compared to last year's.

The Pats may be able to trade down and get him a little later in the top 10 and pick up a pick.

But if Carter and Hunter are gone, the Pats are going to have to pick someone at 4 or trade down a bit and pick someone. If they cannot get a trade partner and no one wants this guy or Campbell, who are they going to pick at 4? Defer the pick until next year when there are better WRs and LTs in the draft? I am not sure if that would fly with the league. The Pats may have to reach for someone at 4 if there is no one other than Carter or Hunter worthy at 4. That is just the hard facts of having a high draft pick in a draft that doesn't have more than two blue chip players.

I think I'd rather have eveery other first round ranked WRs (and Warren) over Tet

Will those matter?? I see CB's Backing off nonetheless.
Speed in four directions is just as important if not more than speed in one direction.

4.5 forty, he's nothing special there either, other than his size makes him a little unique.
