Not a good sign of multiple strokes at his age. The bright side is if their is any person that can endure them it is Tedy. Get well soon

Wow! I hope he recovers 100%.

Still my all time favorite Pat.

They guy started the "we own it" attitude for me.

Wear my best Bruschi Jersey EVERY game day.

.....when things get dire, I throw on one of the Faulk jersey.

    He's tough. God Bless

Parsing those words in your post, they were not incorrect at all. They didn’t say there was NO risk. Just not more than anyone else.

Have never had a stroke, but live in fear of one due to genetics and a chronic, now controlled, arrhythmia; diet exercise, blood thinners, monitoring blood levels are key.. but never know what any day will bring.

Sounds as though our beloved #54 may be predisposed to this often mysterious ailment ... one thing for sure he has access to the best medical care in the world in the Boston Area.. heard he was in Sturdy Memorial, would not be surprised if he was moved from there.

"Get well Tedy".. still have that bumper sticker on one of my coolers..

If I were his wife, I’d have a thing or two to say about the advice to cheerfully allow him to prance back onto a football field years ago when he’s clearly prone to these. They made it sound like he had an unlikely fluke when he obviously didn’t.

As I mentioned before, the stroke that Tedy had originally was because of a hole in his heart. Otherwise known as a Patent Foramen Ovale. They went in a fixed it with surgery.

Could you provide your proof that the two strokes are related? That they were both caused by the PFO?

Could you provide your proof that returning to the football field led to this stroke?
Could you provide your proof that Tedy is "prone" to strokes when you don't know the cause of the 2nd one?

It seems to me that you are making a helluva lot of assumptions based on a position of ignorance. You seem to have fallen into the trap that Correlation somehow equals causation and that's just not the case based on the information available.

Oh yeah, you’re absolutely right. I’m sure this is just some giant coincidence and totally unrelated.

Maybe Tedy Bruschi the onetime football player isn't prone to these. Maybe Tedy Bruschi the human being is. Maybe it's the marathons.

I hope his wife and kids aren't busy blamestorming about this.

    Regards,
    Chris

I’d say you’re absolutely right. But Tedy Bruschi the human being prone to these means in no way should he have been cleared to come back to football. I’m not saying the football caused it. I’m saying all the cute anecdotes in his book about how shocked his wife was when the doctors were telling her he could play were just that, cute anecdotes. And her concerns were a bit more valid than just misunderstanding what a stroke was.

Exactly. There are 3 different types of strokes which are caused by multiple things. Tedy had TIA in 2005. He's had consussions. He's been on various medications. He might have an irregular heartbeat. Who knows.

All we know is he's had 2 strokes ~14 1/2 years apart.

On PFT the Bruschi story resulted in many, many well-wishes responses all of which received many thumbs-ups and double figures thumbs-downs. WTF is wrong with people?

Tedy is the defensive complement to Tom. Pretty much the stuff that makes us most proud to root for the team, the hell with wins or losses. Bruschi's imprint and influence is still all over the place here today, years after his retirement.
[IMG]...and we thank God every day, that he's still with us.

Typically classy of Tedy, is that he utilized his celebrity to expand and promote awareness of this issue.

I frankly know much more on the subject than I ever did prior to 2005.

“Tedy Bruschi has always been a great Patriot, on and off the field, and his handling of the stroke that struck him in 2005 is typical of him. His contributions and efforts to promote stroke awareness are exemplary. We are happy and thrilled that he was successfully treated for the TIA he experienced this week. As always, Patriots fans everywhere offer our love and best wishes to Tedy and his family."

I’m sure you and all of us have said “if I were” many many times.

Bella*chick did not say what Heidi, a strong, smart, former athlete in her own right should feel or say.

I wonder if such a strong smart woman needs you coming to her defense from that perch of yours. I especially wonder if she would do it so rudely.

Holiday Inn Express jokes are still hot, though.

Oh give me a break, Shmessy. I’m sure the shock everyone felt here was magnified times 10 for his family. And when people are scared, they demand accountability and answers. At least normal humans do. Are you saying smart former athletes have some special insight into strokes the rest of us lack?

The first thought most of had (and several posted it here) was “uh-oh, two at such a young age? That can’t be good”. Well, we all thought that for a reason. And I guarantee you she thought it too.and I’m saying IF I WERE HER I would be much more skeptical of anything a doctor said because it’s already happened again.

Sorry you take such offense to normal human reactions.

I dunno. I'm not a football player or a doctor and I don't play either one on TV. I am a wife and a mother though, and I'll side with the other strong, smart lady on here that says I would be very skeptical of doctors telling me this is a fluke, unrelated, and will be all better if my husband had not one, but two strokes before the age of 50, the 2nd one after he was allowed not only to go back on the playing field, but also to fly all over the place because of his job for years following. And don't buy for a minute that TIAs or their euphemistic aka "mini-strokes" are not a big deal. Look it up and weep. They are often the precursor to the Big Kahuna and they are scary. My grandmother followed the pattern - periodic mini-strokes (where she would pass out and her blood pressure would plummet, they she would wake up [usually after we called an ambulance and were losing our minds] totally confused and not remembering what happened), then one day the "mini" was gone. Granted, she was in her 80s and this was 30 years ago, but to me that makes Tedy's condition worse, because he is so much younger and there are (theoretically) better treatments out there now, yet it still happened to him again. Godspeed Tedy and I hope you and your family can make a full recovery and learn to live with and/or combat the risks of this crappy condition you have.
