Ted Johnson to be on WAAF this morning

For somebody whose so depressed that he can't get out of bed in the mourning, he sure seems to find the energy to parade the issue around pretty well. Don't get me wrong, if his concern is the safety of players all around the NFL then all the power to him. However, usually when you're as depressed as the Globe made him out to be, the last thing he would be doing is trying to make a public stance on the issue.

Maybe its a positive sign of his coming out of depression. though many people are somewhat functional even when clinically depressed.

It could also be a manic depressive situation where he does have highs and lows.

In any event the fact that he's concerned about his public perception is probably a good one for his health. But again, he might not be the best spokesperson on this issue considering the chip he already had on his shoulder for BB in the past before all this started.

To be fair, unless things have changed, it is usually editors who decide when articles/stories are run unless they are by chance a columnist. I'm not defending her anti-establishment bias (pro-player) but exactly when her story may go to press probably isn't in her control.

In most cases I'm sure you are correct. But in this case McMullen reported that the article had been written and prepared 6 months ago, but was held back waiting for Ted Johnson to give the green light on release. He gave that green light last week.

He brought up more of the Red-Shirt/Blue SHhrt practice stuff and said he is conerned about NFL and NHL players risk of concussions. THis guy needs to find something to ocupy his time and is having trouble accpeting he's no longer an NFL player.

I absolutely agree. I've also stated previously that the man since he retired has given his little digs to the Patriots organization via the media. For a man smart enough to learn Belichicks defense, he should've been more prepared for life after the NFL. Don't get me wrong, I feel bad to see a previously successful person flounder, especially a retired Pat, but he has all the support systems in place, did / does he use them? I don't know, I just wish him well and hope he finds the peace that he's searching for.

Thow Ted a bone. Make him assistant strength coach....might help his life if he had a job with team.

the guy needs help, both physically and mentally. he's a good guy and I remember him as a remarkable player.

as someone with experience in dealing with high profile people who have trouble with prescription drugs, someone needs to counsel him to take care of those issues first, and privately. trying to embarass or bring down his old team and/or coaches is probably serving a host of psychological needs, including venting a lot of anger, but won't get him where he needs to get in his own wellbeing.

i don't think anyone is debating that there are significant issues that need to be addressed when it comes to the health of current and former NFL players, but the way to address them is not to make a villain out of one team or one coach or one set of players.
