Ted Johnson = sour grapes

It occured to you because he said something about the Patriots that you didn't like. Of course you're going to think that. I seriously doubt it's true though.

Did I say I believed it? No. I said it came to my mind and I thought about it. I don't know, and you don't know, what happened behind closed doors. So we'll just leave that up to speculation.

But listening to Ted last night, he sounded like a bitter ex-employee, who didn't appreciate what he had.

TJ had some great years for the Pats and some good role-player years as well. He was a beast against the run. And he was a Pat through thick and thin for a loooong time.

He's also entitled to his opinions, even if he's wrong. At least they seem like his real opinions, conflicted though they may be, rather than calculated crap like, say, Ron Borges.

He's picking Indy over the Pats... Indy had FOUR MORE WINS than the Pats and kicked their butts earlier this year. It's not exactly a stretch to pick the Colts.

Wow! I am surprised that given all that's happened that TJ would feel that Drew shoulda kept his job. What a Bledsoe Krishna. I'm very happy that similar flawed 'thinking' will have us face Leftwich, an ideal target for our D. I'm assuming Bruschi sits out Saturday.

I really don't know what to think about this whole thing. I heard TJ on the Sunday 5th Quarter show but did not hear him on Felger's radio show. The one thing I will say is that maybe Ted was "happy" that the Patriots were doing poorly as a result of not having him as a part of the team. Maybe it was an ego boost for him to think the team would fail without him. I have enjoyed him on channel 4 because he is always calm and insightful. I am so sick of all the yelling and arguing that goes on with the radio shows and NEST!

Unreal is quoting one person's opinion and making a judgement on the whole community based on it. I for one, disagree with RayClay on this.

You people meaning the ones who actually believe it. If you believe it, then you apply, if not, disregard.

I don't have a problem with TJ. Felger is a media guy so I sometimes have a problem with him.

If what TJ said is his honest opinion then fine, I may disagree with it, but it's really not that big a deal.

BTW, on your location you may want to delete word "football".

personally i have a lot of respect for # 52 Ted Johnson and i think he has been our best run stopper for several years in Patriot uniform.

for the moment that's all for me - a good memory for a good player.

The entire system of the NFL how it chews up players and spits them out. Also I detected a hint of animosity towards BB.

I think I could handle being chewed up and spat out for a few million $$$.

It seems to me that nearly everyone who gets into the media game learns pretty quickly that the point is the opposite of "let's be insightful and educate people". It's a phenomenon too disheartening to dwell on much. I'll never forget the time, years ago, a guy who had formerly done color for Bruins' telecasts came back to do a cameo bit of analysis between periods, as a guest. He showed some film from the first period,as I recall, and analysed it brilliantly. I was shocked and delighted to see that he was not the clown he had always seemed to be and I loved his analysis. But then I got bummed out when it occurred to me to wonder why his analytical light had been so invisible when he was actually working as an analyst.

Didn't Flutie pay his dues? If anyone derserved a chance to try that kick it was Fluite.
Don't forget that dougie was once a scab. Whenthe players were on strike back in 1988(?) or whenever, he had his chance to join the Pats but he had to break the picket line to do it. TJ hasn't been around that long, but there may be a few who remember this.

Thank God for the "scabs". If it weren't for them the NFL would be traveling down the same toilet as Major League Baseball.

I can still remember the video of that great and virtuous union leader Irving Fryar stomping up and down on the car of one of those exploiting capitalist class scabs.

A real scab replaces a factory worker. Replacing Irving Fryar while he has to go on food stamps for his Chardonnay and Meth was a public service.

For that, Dougie is even a greater hero.

Interesting....what was once a "great guy" and real attribute to this team that will be sorely missed is now all of the sudden a one dimensional player and roid head. You people are unreal.

I don't know him personally. If you do and say he's a great guy, I'll take your word for it.

I'm only speaking to his actual playing ability and to posters who say he was mistreated by the Patriots.

He was a good linebacker.

He was a great linebacker if stopping the run was his only job.

Compare him to Bruschi and you would have to say he was limited.

They play the same position and Bruschi covers, gets interceptions, rushes the passer and other things Johnson couldn't do well.

Did the Patriots abuse him by asking him to take pay cuts?

Or did they pay him for about twice as many games as he played effectively in?

Yes, he was constantly injured. I don't mean to question his injuries, but muscles ripping off the bone does cause questions. Has for years.

Ted johnson, good linebacker when healthy. Period. He has absolutely no complaints.

Generally, I'm pro-union, but I also think that unions have hurt themselves by attempting to create islands of privelege, instead of helping all workers. You see that even today. Unions invest (as I understand it) little in expanding unions so that they can help all workers. They cry "unfair" all the time, but how much is that going to resonate when they themselves seem to be unfair?

When you think about it, the appeal of unions is so natural that it ought to be easy for them to be strong. The problem is that they seem to be more interested in privelege than in fairness.

Many of the Chicago players made it as difficult as they could for Flutie to have a fair shot as a qb in the nfl, according to legend. I'd say that they put him in a position where he had to look out for himself and had to take any chance to keep his career going. They were more interested in privelege than in fairness.

Maybe Doug was wrong to cross the picket line. But I'm not too impressed by players who complain about it.

I agree with ted j.....

Listening to Johnson on Felger tonight, it is very clear he has sour grapes.

* He said the Flutie kick was a mockery to all the guys out there busting their arse, especially guys like Bam Childress, who barely get a chance to play, and the one time they do the team doesn't want to win.

* He said in the NFL, guys are patted on the back enough for a job well done. Then he said "especially down there". Refering to Foxborough. He also said it was a grueling work environment.

* He also said he doesn't feel sorry for all the coaches being fired because they waive/drop players at the drop of a hat and dont think twice about it. With disdain, he also said the coaches use a portion of the NFLPA building rent free.

on several points.....most importantly Flutes......I think BB should have been more forthcoming with the 2nd and 3rd teamers who were out there playing there ***es off trying to WIN that game....only to have belichick say.......Hey....send in Fruity to take a 50/50 chance (given the fact that he shanked 3 off and made one during practices....that might even be high!) to kick an extra point......that could be made by Adam V with HIS EYES CLOSED.

Why do you think that NO OTHER COACH IN 60+ years has NOT kicked a drop kick extra point? Because there is A BETTER, almost perfect WAY to do it now.........and secondly, IMHO, out of respect for the great players of yesteryear that all kicked that way....because that is all they knew.......

It seems almost sacreligious in a way....to rob the "past" and history of the game......for the benefit of what.......a few ego's?? To be further analgous, why haven't more basketball players tried a underhanded free throw toss? They could sneak into the "record books"! Because there is a better way to do it....and HOPEFULLY....they respect the history of the game too much to
"smear" it..........I could go on further about the ruination of baseball's storied records......by players taking steroids.....and even though that is not a proper analogy......it makes a mockery of the game....same as what Flutes/BB did.........at the expense of the 2nd and 3rd stringers who were playing their ***es off out there!

Lastly, I also agree with TJ about the coaches getting canned........it is a business.......if it is ok to drop a player without any warning......a coach getting dropped is no different........I miss that TJ!!!!!!

You, Felger and a lot of other guys with inadequacy issues need to get over your Flutie obsession and envy.

I have no inadequacies about Flutes my friend.......and envy? Dude....put down the pipe.... I have met him and talked with him several times.....and his bro.........they were very arrogant guys......and he is definitely a media whore.........just ask those of us that know him from Natick.....are you from Natick Mass?

It's more about the decision to attempt a meaningless play (to get one point) and laugh in the face of history.......while in fact, NOT trying to win a game......while saying that you were.....very confusing.......

Yah I was from Metrowest Boston, Smerlas country. You're clearly obssesed. Obviouly he and/or his brother scooped some skank you were trying to score points with or something similar.

I think Ted has lost his mind. More to the point, I think he feels like this team is on the cusp of another playoff run and he knows he's not going to be a part of it and it's killing him so he doesn't want them to win one without him.

How Flutie's kick impacts Bam Childress in any way completely escapes me. Maybe it's time for Ted to just STFU but then again, when you're in love with the sound of your own voice I suppose it's hard. QUOTE]

agree with all of the above
I always like TJ while he was in a Pats Uniform, think he had his prime robbed of him similar to Willie and that was unfortunate becauese he was a great runstopping talent, and showed that in his last few years. I do think he always had a grudge against BB over the years.
I was interested and excited when he first was on to get some good insight into the locker room like no other recent reporter could with his fresh connections with the players and coaches. But I have become more and more dissapointed as the games have gone on. It seems as if one poster said earlier in the first half of the season when the team wasnt doing well, all he was covering for the teams mistakes, but when the team started winning he has had nothing but negative undertones and I think jealous that the Pats are doing it without him. Its a shame, because the Pats have given him everything, but I wouldnt be surprised if afer a year or so BB and the Pats somewhat shut him out for his actions.

ps as far as the muscle tear off the bones.... has anyone else seen how much weight he has lost even at the start of the season this year????

I wouldn't disagree. Just speculating on the source of some of the vibes. I suppose I could have used a better word than scab.
