Teams calling Pats about Gonzalez

Why would we trade Gonzo when he has the talent to be a hall of famer.
Only reason would be Kraft sees that Surtain contract and doesn’t want to invest that.
Gonzo is going to get paid regardless. Guys a top 5 CB in the league. Surtain is a great player but he gives up alot more plays than gonzo does.

I get what you are saying Ivan. Can't rightly disagree, no matter what I see or don't see.
Watching My guy gonzo and watching Marcus it's clearly a huge drop off from CB1 to CB2 on this team. I've been saying that since last off season the team needs to look to add another high caliber CB opposite Gonzo. Sneed or Alexander preferably.

Unless it was a team like Carolina who you know have a good chance to net you two top 5 picks over 2 years you don’t do it. Let’s be honest here, he was rated as a top 10 prospect, saw no less than 13 in mock drafts. Personally I was a little down on him because he played in the pac 12. However, any doubts were quickly erased going up vs Tyreek and others.

The chances of landing a prospect of his talent that translates to real success with two mid first round picks is very minimal imo. Sorry but it would have to be for 2 first and 2 second which nobody would do so that’s not happening. Just keep him and build around him and see where it goes. Don’t think they are going to suck enough to get Travis Hunter so the chances of getting another potential shutdown cb are almost nil. Imagine those two on the same team though?

Is Josina Anderson tied into this team at all?

What about DK Metcalf and a second for Gonzo? Would you pull the trigger on that?
Or Tee Higgins and a second for Gonzo?

I wouldn’t shut down corners don’t walk thru the door and he has the tools to be a all time great.

DK plus a 1st and 3rd and I’d do it.

If a bad team offered up two 1sts and a 2nd, the Patriots would not reject it imo. Point being, everyone sans Mahomes (maybe Allen & Burrow) could be had for the right price.
Two firsts and a 2nd? Of course you take that, and point and laugh at the GM who gets fired five minutes after making that trade

I like Gonzo. its one of the three "untouchables" from what I have read... Maye, Gonzo & Barmore... but... There's always a but, isn't there?

I don't see what everyone else seems to see, a shut down corner. I see a good corner, not great. Maybe that changes as he gets better. He certainly has talent and will most likely grow into that promise. There is no denying that.

So maybe I'm off base, missing something. That could absolutely be the case. won't be the first time, won't be the last. You give me a couple 1's and I am trading him tomorrow. Or by tuesday the 5th. I don't expect anyone else to agree with me.

The pass defense with him is somehow worse than last season.

You do see the potential, but his impact isn’t fully seen yet because the rest of the defense is so bad. They don’t have a pass rush, haven't stopped the run well and the other DB’s like Marcus Jones are getting picked on. Speaking of Marcus Jones, he is awful. Like his rookie season, he's been getting picked on and has allowed the most passing yards on the team by a large margin at 366, 16th most in the league, 14 yards per competition and a 111 QB rating when thrown at. As Real fan says, they need someone else opposite of Gonzalez.

Agree 100%. Yourself as we as PatsFan2 have been on this since the off season. I think Marcus is slot CB who is forced to play on the outside because the CB depth is bad. Austin Bolden &Wilson have all the physical tools you want in a big outside CB.. this season they just haven't done anything but give up plays, and PI calls. Wilson is surprisingly bad to me because he was the veteran at outside CB who bad played well in Arizona and had starting experience. Wolf needs to go ahead and pry Alexander from Green Bay for the 3rd rounder we got for judon. Someone like him or his caliber is needed badly. Feels like we will need to also revamp the front 7. Hawkins is ok at FS and I think petus and marpu will improve. Really hope my guy peppers works out.

It’s just a little suspicious that this very “out there” report comes after a bad AI article saying the Titans were trying to trade for Gonzalez was making the rounds on Twitter on Thursday. Surely Josina Anderson wouldn’t fall for that, right?

Gonzo has more on his plate this season as pelligrino was talking saying they feel like he can handle more. As rainmaker says the pass defense has suffered becuase of the pass rush. Our rush had been pretty solid last few seasons this season the injuries are just too glaring.

He moves around and covers TEs as well.. so while it may not always appear he's shutting down guys I've noticed QBs respect him and don't try him like they do our other CBs. I believe he's a top 5 CB in the game right now.

Trading Godchaux at this point would be raising the white flag.
Agreed, team needs to start building a winning culture at some point, the time is now with Maye. Keep the vets, keep building.

I don't want to trade Gonzo, unless it's a drop dead offer, but this is NO.
I'd be reluctant to trade him (although it would have to be an out of this world deal). In fact, we need a stud #2 CB to play with him. Marcus Jones is more of a Slot CB.

Gonzo is a foundational piece in the rebuild. Those players should not be for sale, especially for future considerations. Constantly churning players who are young leaders is not good for team culture. The only way the team should consider trading him is if they receive a similar player at a different position as part of the deal. The Gonzo of LTs would warrant a long hard look. That is not likely, so I am with you that Gonzo needs to stay.
Agreed. And, we should be looking for a solid #2 CB to go with him, as Marcus Jones is more of a Slot CB.

Disagree Pape. Gonzalez is already showing that he can shut down the best receivers in football, and he hasn’t even played a full season of football. When you find players with that kind of upside you don’t let go of them. I wouldn’t take two firsts for him. They already used a first on him so that’s like trading him for a first round pick.
Not to mention that one of those two 1st Round Picks would need to go to trying to find a CB of the same or better talent than the one you just traded (Gonzo). And we actually could use a solid #2 CB to play opposite of him as Marcus Jones is more of a Slot CB.

Ty Law, Aquib Talib, Stephon Gilmore. Having one of those caliber of CB's makes your defense so much better. Gonzo could be the next one of those types.

Agreed I'd even put assante in the conversation as even though he was a zone CB he turned QBs over. Gonzo is a great young player and he's the lone bright spot in this seasons defense.

I'd still kick him in the balls.

And I'd still gladly give you a lift. Heck, I could probably be coerced to run you over to an Asian massage parlor afterwards. Get you a nice... uh... foot rub after.

We've seen the Pats have some really good secondary's over the years. My favorite is the late 90's secondary's with 2003 coming in a close second as they were statistically the best. Nobody was able to throw on them. Law and Poole was awesome that season. Then you had a gem in Samuel as nickel.

Asante struggled badly in 2005, but he was really good in 2006 and 2007 until he fell asleep in two critical plays in the Super Bowl which fans only want to remember him by.
