Clay Harbor released

- $ 400.00
+ 5th or 6th 2017 comp. (tradable) pick

EDIT:

Called it! Now to be doubly right, someone needs to go to IR for the other spot

I named Harbor as a potential cut also........Brisket to IR ???

I wonder why do this today if exemptions for Brady and Nink (no move required until the weekend)? Probably just wishful thinking, but I have not given up on Reece (they need to release someone if he is signed today, and Harbor would be a logical candidate). Either way, more moves are coming.

BB probably has a clearer vision of what his needs are after the Bills debacle

On one hand, it kinda sucks to have a $1.1M cap hit for a 4-game special teams contributor. I'm still not really sure why he made the final 53, considering that he was apparently the TE4 and having him on the roster week 1 guaranteed his 900K base salary. I'm sure there's factors at play that fans on the outside aren't aware of, but I didn't understand that at the time and it looks even stranger now in hindsight.

OTOH, that's a sunk cost and if his spot is going to Reece then the team's getting better.

Can't believe the Pats released Harbor for that bum Brady to get a roster spot. Belichick is killing the team more and more every year.

Derby still not safe. Especially if Reece comes in. There's also Scruggs there ..

EDIT:
Bills game was reality check for quite a few guys there .. what happen when the bullets start flying or when you're battling uphill

I think they just liked what they had in him as a depth TE and ST, but may be jumping on an upgrade in Reece and are willing to bite the bullet on money in exchange for the better player plus picking up a comp pick.

Just speculating, but I think that the primary reason that Harbor made the roster out of training camp was Gronk's hamstring. Cut Harbor before week one and you only have two healthy tight ends for the first month of the season. That becomes more of an issue with an inexperienced quarterback starting those games until Gronk returns.

To me this is also a signal that Gronk is ready to take on a far larger workload than he did against Houston and Buffalo. The trainers must be confident that the hammy is sufficiently healed.

Agree and they dont beleave Derby makes it to PS

Good, he was a useless waste of money.

The bigger story is that, with this move, it suggests the Patriots will be activating either Tom Brady or Rob Ninkovich. At least one of these two will not be released. Why is no one talking about this? I really hope it's Brady that will take this roster spot...no offense to Ninkovich, but it would be harder for Brady to find work for another team at this point in the season, since teams are more hesitant to bring on a new quarterback. Nink could probably find work on a team desperate for an outside linebacker/defensive end.
