Not one of the more important pieces of news and not that surprising but this was on Mike Reiss' blog today:

Safety Tavon Wilson, whom the Patriots selected in the second round of the 2012 draft, will not re-sign with the team before the start of free agency on Wednesday, but the sides aren’t closing the door on a possible return depending on what unfolds on the market. The Patriots selected Stanford safety Jordan Richards in the second round in 2015, and also have starters Devin McCourty(2019) and Patrick Chung (2017), as well as No. 3 safety Duron Harmon (2016), under contract at the position. So Wilson will look around to see if there’s a better opportunity elsewhere.

Patriots' Nate Solder optimistic about recovery, return of Dante Scarnecchia

so that officially ends the discussion on good pick/bad pick.

FWIW I was on the "In Bill I trust" side.

In his rookie year he had 36 tackles, 4 INT's, 6 PD and 2 FR and looked somewhat promising. After that he about disappeared except for that 74 yard pick-six against Bal late the next season and that was about it.

Tavon Wilson
Ryan Mallet
Kevin O'Connell

3 picks BB should have known were bad before they were ever made. Mallett and O'Connell were abominations as picks, and Wilson was picked 3 rounds too high.

then there was Jamie Collins.

then there was Jamie Collins.

Collins was a QB that wasn't needed and was clearly going to be a bad fit in the system even if he stayed, or a safety drafted 3 rounds early?

And nothing of value was lost.

Not much reason in keeping Wilson when Ebner is much more of a "Belichick type" guy, anyway. I'm guessing that Nate stays for sure.

To take it one step further, we had some new guys step up on STs last year like King and Richards.

As a healthy scratch in the playoffs, this impending transaction should be of no surprise to anybody.

Once again this board descends into some discussion that BB does not know how to draft WR's or DB's or could have made better draft choices, all the while most NFL teams have hits of misses in the draft.. in our Patriot parochialism, this seems worse, despite having 15 consecutive winning seasons.

Terrence Wheatly, Darius Butler, Ras I Dowling, Tavon Wilson. Hope Jordan Richards can break the tradition of 2nd round DB busts

I been meaning to ask: What made you pick that UserName?? I, for one, find it awesome...And I'm shocked that anyone would not only know the term but employ it as a Moniker!!
