Tankathon

The problem with this argument/attitude is that it's not up to us. We'd all like to see a good game and a close loss to get the better pick. But it's up to the players, who are very unlikely to let the Jets beat them. If you want to be upset, be upset with them.
Absolutely a fair point, and I agree.

New plan. Kraft mandates a Tank vs. Jets or the Belichick boys will end up with horses heads next to them. Get 2nd or 3rd pick. Trade down and pick both Penix and Odunze. Trade up and pick DT Sweat in the second.

Mandate that Professor Xavier’s illegitimate daughter (who was a favorite of the camera man tonight) has to announce all of their picks.

Masochists, too.

In my opinion, these three QBs are nothing like the 2021 draft class, or any recent draft class in my opinion. As they say in investing, past performance is no guarantee of future results. I think these guys are all really good and you have to get one of them. Sure, there may be a drop off after the top two, but I still think Daniels gives you tremendous upside and he likely has the best WAR in the 3-5 pick range. I think it would be hard to find a QB like him in a future draft.

And please, please no offensive tackle. I also like the Megatron analogy for MHJ. Sure, he may be a great receiver, but that position is not a difference maker like QB.
Yeah but do you take a 95% certainty on an all-pro level WR or a 10% certainty at QB? I seriously wouldn't mind MHJ after Maye and Williams are off the board. Or heck, even just Maye. Especially since we haven't had that caliber of WR since 2007

I'll sign off on this plan.

If only Bill thought he had a chance to coach here next year he would see that losing to the Jest is actually really winning. It's about building for the future as well now isn't it? And we need a plethora of talent.
Not at all rooting for a tank job but "it is what it is"?
And I can guarantee the NFL offices investigating the Pats for tanking if they somehow do lose to NYJ. Watch Zappe throw a pick at the goal line with :30 left and the Pats down 2 and see what happens in NFL headquarters. Then again, they're just happy Bill will be gone from here. They can spy him elsewhere for next 3 years.

Just as a piece of information. The Jets have nothing to play for either. Imagine if we both tanked and just took knees all day. Game tied and that would cost us number 2.

What if they tie? I'm curious to know what that would do to the draft order.

That’s easy because it skips all the SOS nonsense. #2 if Commanders and Cardinals both win, #3 if one wins, #4 if both lose.

unlike the 2021 season, most of these QBs have good tape to watch in order to evaluate the player. The 2020 season was really f’ed up by Covid making the 2021 draft a crap shoot.

I have been rooting for ties the past several weeks... not getting them hurts, TBH.

it’s crazy that Stroud has been so good at such a young age, but in general draft age when it comes to quarterbacks is less important to me than positions with a limited shelf, like running back. The top quarterbacks in the league are playing into their mid 30s and beyond and I don’t see this number dropping, given the rule changes that limit the number of hits that quarterbacks take.

In fact, an “older” drafted quarterback generally has extensive starting experience at the college level and is, therefore, more likely to be able to hit the ground running as a rookie. For instance, Penix looked NFL-ready to me last night….confident, aggressive, very accurate and cool under pressure with great pocket awareness and ability to buy himself more time. The fact that he is a couple of years older than the typical drafted quarterback doesn’t bother me in the least.

If his game doesn’t depend on running, how long could braces, surgery, etc, allow Penix to be an effective NFL QB?

Like @Sciz said, a tie is simpler because you don’t have to worry about the other tiebreakers. With a tie, the Pats would then have a better record than Washington and Arizona if either/both teams lose, or a worse record if either/both teams win. But they would have a worse record guaranteed than any of the 5 win teams, so they’d have the 4th pick at worst.
