Talibs hip

We don't know the severity of specifics about it yet, nor will we. In your scenario though, I'd much rather just shut him down for another month.

The problem is that he's already been shut down for 5+ weeks now, and that apparently didn't seem to do much good, so how would we know if another 4 would do any good, especially with the playoffs coming up?

In your scenario, we'd have shut him down for 5 weeks, then another 4 after that. There has to be some point where you start to wonder if bringing in another free agent CB who will actually play in the games (although with lesser talent) would be a better choice.

Initially i thought it was said it was a hip flexor. And i know if those are bad enough...they take 6-8 weeks to heal. But it should have healed if it was a pretty bad one by now

I still don't understand why guys like Amendola and Vereen earn the title of injury prone due to multiple completely unrelated injuries, yet people ignore that there's clearly some kind of long-term issue with Talib's hip/hamstring area. That's going to be a huge red flag when he hits free agency this offseason.

Talib lost millions tonight...millions.

I wouldn't be ready to say that. Unless he misses more games or craps the bed the rest of the way he will still get his pay day. His achievements in the first half of the season isn't just going to be discarded. And if what you say does happen and no one wants to pay him big, it'll be easier to resign him.

if he re injured it..he will be out another 3-4 weeks based on what has happened in the past

Well yeah, but that's what it's been for the past 4 years now.

At any given time it can flare up and cause him to miss a lot of time.

Last year's stretch run of letting him miss a game here and there, quarter or half here and there wasn't the way to go, b/c he went out at the most inopportune time when we were totally shutting BAL down and on our way to another SB. That is why I advocated letting him have the whole 5 weeks to heal this year by not rushing him back prior to this game...BUT, that didn't seem to be any better of an approach.

That leads me to believe that there really isn't any good approach, and that he has an obvious chronic injury that can prevent whatever team he's on from going too deep in their season/playoffs.

I say he plays vs Denver smith knows him well and not only has his number but also knows how to get into his head...Talib is a physical CB and there is not many CB's in the NFL that can out physical steve simth,

on the other hand he did make it a lot more easy for the pats to re-sign him, no NFL team will pay him more then 6 million per IMO the pats would be crazy to TAG him after this season at 11 million I think that 3 year 21 million contract that one poster was talking about in the talib tread now could be a reality

Please sign Asomugha.

He cannot be worse than Cole. Or Arrington on the outside

I would have liked to have seen another CB or S brought in myself, particularly when Talib went down. In my opinion, that left us somewhat vulnerable due to the fact that you just never know when/if he'll be back and how much he'll be able to go.

The problem is (aside from the fact that Asomaugh seems to be a former shell of himself) that it is not "easy" to suddenly bring someone in and expect them to understand and pick up our system/responsibilities/calls/checks etc.

It isn't a position that is anywhere on the same level as WR or QB, but it's still complex and would likely take awhile. I believe that is why Ed Reed claimed that he didn't want to come here, due to it being a different system that would take awhile to get down.

We've seen some guys do it fairly quickly, so I suppose anything is possible, but I do think that limits moves more than people initially think.

I dunno how bad Talib's injury really was, but I think his play tonight in part was a little rust, but also receivers like Smith, short, shifty guys have always given Talib problems. He matches up better with bigger guys.

It's a pity Dennard was not available for this game as I would have loved to have seen a Dennard-Steve Smith matchup leaving Talib free to take Lafell or even Olsen who was fairly effective for the Panthers on a number of key occasions. The result may not have been any different in the end but it would have been a real test to see how Dennard coped with the veteran.

Yes let's call it for what it was. Smith killed Talib all game. I felt before Dennard was listed as out for this one, he was a better matchup on Smith. And let's be real, a shifty receiver that can turn u in and out, not really good for a guy with hip problems.

this team will go nowhere near the SB...D is too injured.

Couldn't agree more. Draft time couldn't come here soon enough. On the other hand, we drafted some defensive players the last couple of years, and it clearly got us nowhere.

I would offer him one year contracts with playing time incentives until he fixes his hip. We also better have a solid back up because I don't see him playing a full schedule and post season games.

Would you rather have the pats shut him down for another say 2-4 weeks and TRY and get healthy for playoffs? Or have him battle it so we can try and win the denver game

Extrapolating a little too far - but what the heck... it's the internet.

I'd rather not win the #2 seed (I'd bet we're pretty much assured of not getting #1 unless some freak situation unfolds in Denver) and have Talib for the playoffs than be the #2 seed and not have Talib ready to play.

Same goes for Gronk.

Same logic applies here for me for both the #3 and #4 seeds, honestly.

Chandler Jones was pretty good last night. I thought Harmon played well for a starting rookie on MNF. Logan Ryan didn't show up being smoked in coverage at any point. Maybe the last 2 will suck horribly in year 2 like it seems every one of our DB's has over the last 10 years. Who knows?

I was thinking of something more on par with the Seahawks defense....

Is this hip injury ever going to go away? Not sure if he is going to be worth top dollar if he is going to be in and out of the lineup all season long. In his one year prove it deal he has shown he can compete with the best but hasn't dispelled the injury bug 1 bit.

I would agree except that, who else is there....the broncos are, but manning is hurting and one more decent hit and he's going to be out for awhile as his ankles are ready to explode. without welker, the pats will get pressure on him

who else? the chiefs? the bengals? the colts?

at this point, the only place I think the pats would have a hard chance to win would be in denver and I like their chances anywhere else.......

the pats have a real good chance for the 2 seed

There's no indication that talib will miss next week yet...which is actually a better matchup for him...Thomas is the type of receiver he shuts down.

Hopefully we get dennard back as well

Don't understand all the doom and bloomers..yeah we lost BT you have to feel good that the pats were able to move the ball against the #1 defense currently

Demaryius Thomas is among the Top WR's in the game period! His yac ability for a Big guys is amazing. I Don't think 60% Talib could slow down Demaryius Thomas.
