Suppose Edelman had to play QB?

I'm not so sure about that. BB has already laid down the gauntlet (he also could be bluffing but BOB knows better). Hes said that JB has been here for months. Hes had the playbook since May. Hes been to every QB and offensive meeting. Hes been to every practice. Hes taken countless reps. Hes played a bunch in the preseason. Hes seen NFL game action. While the entire playbook certainly won't be at his disposal they will expect him to run the offense and not just hand the ball off.

On another note, he was exposed to the Perkins-Erhardt offense at Florida which was coached by Charlie Weis for a year.

You misread me. I said that Edelman would get a very stripped down playbook if he were taking snaps. I'm guessing that the number of situations in which the staff would have confidence that he'd make good decisions , while vastly lower than it is for Brissett, let alone Jimmy G, let alone Brady, is not quite as low as zero.

Julian Edelman...quarterback drafted from Kent State where he STARTED....or AJ Derby, a big , ponderous tight end....hmmm....tough one....

OK...let's go with Derby...

Anyone else out there who, while not wanting to see Brissett fail or get injured, is secretly rooting hard to see Edelman at QB? Man, what an awesome sight that would be, for entertainment purposes.

My bad.

i wanted to say troy brown, but his only pass was off a lateral from bledsoe in the final game of the 1999 season against the ravens (it was incomplete):

Awesome clip!

You're right, I meant regularly lining up as the QB during a game. I agree with RecoveringCowboy that there was probably some amazing athlete 60+ years ago that played every position.

Absolutely.

I'd love to see one play of JE11 running the read option.

Just not sure the rest of the personnel is ready for that.

5 things we know about Julian Edelman, quarterback

reminds us of a couple of things:

1. Edelman wasn't a very good QB in college. More precisely, he wasn't very accurate.

2. There's a chance he's played some scout team QB to imitate mobile QBs, which would give him the opportunity to keep his throwing mechanics somewhat practiced.

3. The single pass to Amendola shows that he has an arm.

Run the EdelCat.

there will be a few read option where he has one, maybe two receivers and if they are not open, run.
There will also be a few shotgun snap QB "draws" where he pretends it is a punt return.

Fixed that for you. Might be a coming out party for DJ Foster.

I don't think ASU ran the read option but maybe they can put a play or two in this week

Imagine if Edelman lines up at QB... What other player in NFL history has played WR, PR, CB, and QB?
The only guy that comes to mind is Frank Gifford, who was elected to the pro bowl as a defensive back, a running back, and a flanker (WR), while also having at least a brief stint as an emergency QB, his position in college at Stanford. He threw 14 career TD passes, but most of those were halfback option passes.

Interesting theory.

Would actually make sense, not least because a raw QB's best safety valve on the team, TEs perhaps aside, would be Edelman.
I don't want to see Edelman play QB.....BUT, he set records at QB in college. I thought I read he was the Flutie of whatever division he played in.

Here's a video of Walter Payton playing QB, though it was really a rushing-first attack.

The MAC, mid-American conference. It's D1. MAC QBs include Ben Roethlisberger, Byron Leftwich, Chad Pennington, Charlie Batch, Charlie Frye and probably others.

I've read that a couple times now.

All the props to JE11 in college but he was not on the same planet as a QB compared to #22
