Steeler wants players to save now for a strike

LOL.......the owners aren't giving 1% away....not sure whose ass you pulled that out of.....if the league fails to operate for a year, there will be longer standing repercussions on the bottom line.....they are not going to simply pick up where they left off....it will likely take 4-5 years just to get back to where they were.....many fans will not return after missing a year

your example is insanely oversimplified
Yes, your posts make it clear I have to dumb-down my statements. Regardless, fact remains owners are in it for the long haul, which the players are not. They are much more willing to absorb short term losses for long term gains. A player isn't going to make a major short term loss for a long term gain because the vast majority of players have fewer than 3 years of shelf life left.

.hell, many contracts could be voided anyway......an entire missed season by all players would create a huge mess contract-wise.
LOL! Talk about pulling things out of peoples' asses!!

If you have to completely make up things that are not even remotely based in plausibility, then that just shows the weaknesses of your thesis.

1 - loss of anti trust exemption.......doesn't really affect players
2 - the courts see breach of contract and allow the players to void all of them.......this is what I would actually like to see.......make every player a free agent
Work stoppages are not considered breaches of individual contracts.

yup.....you think you know something, but you don't

If they have a work stoppage..and goodell stays...i may be out..but the agreement is until 2020 right?

Yes, and that means the 2020 season so any potential stoppage would be in summer 2021.

I have always rooted for the owners against the players because I believe in capitalism (i.e. owners put up capital and therefore should reap a significant portion of the reward) and because I want to watch football. This time is different though, I will root for the players and I don't care if we lose a season and think that will be the same with a lot of fans.

There are only 32 owners splitting 45% of all the advertising money.

There are like 1800-1900 players splitting 55% of the advertising money.

The average players career is 3 years long and many of them leave the sport with injuries that will affect them the rest of their lives. Most will only make a couple hundred thousand after taxes etc in the league even if they don't waste any of it on expensive cars and watches.

People tune in to watch the players play, they don't tune in to see which 20 year old blonde Kraft is dating, or which celebrity he has up in his luxury booth

I don't know how anyone could morally support the owners under almost any circumstance.. yea, they're the capitalists who put down a lot of money to build stadiums etc (in some cases, in other cases they used tax payer money to the tune of hundreds on millions of dollars to finance their stadium) but they aren't struggling, they're making stupid amounts of money off of their investments (as they should be), but now they're falling victim to the age old sin of greed.

Capitalism, like ANY other system, gets out of control and has problems. It helps people create incredible wealth and power that can be used to promote innovations and advancements for the betterment of society, but it's a double edged sword because very rarely do the people who reach those levels of wealth and power use it with those objectives in mind

There are only a little over 1000 billionaires in the world and the nfl owners make up 32 of them. They don't need and shouldn't receive the support of working class people who live drastically different lives.

If you're not worth at least a $100+ million dollars, you're a peasant to these people.

I agree it's stupid, and that's exactly why it's good news that player reps are taking this issue seriously. If you think players should be more responsible with their money and should actually engage in long-term financial planning for a change, then you should be glad that player reps are putting this message out there.

The best path to bring RG down is for TB or another player suing him in Civil Court. Get all the transcripts, emails, text messages, etc. out in public view to see how the NFL Front Office conspired to defame players and the petty, arrogant reasons behind it.

That, or for some nationally known author to write a book on how corrupt the NFL has become under Goodell.

Banking on the players putting up a united front for an extended period of time is a risky proposition but I think it's smart that they are starting to put the threat of it out early.

This, and throw in crooked owners that conspired with goodell* to pressure him to pursue TB Witch Hunt.

Didn't you know? At the annual rookie symposium they teach them all about saving money, avoiding predatory women and finding a fall guy.
Just not in that order.....
