I'm really starting to think the Patriots will take Ricky Stanzi in the 4th or 5th round. They need to at least one option to be the heir to Brady and Hoyer isn't it. Hoyer makes a great back up, but I don't think they'll pass up the potential of Stanzi if he's there in the 4th or 5th. I see a lot of Brady's qualities in Stanzi as well. Stanzi leadership mirror's Brady and also the way Stanzi can just sit in the pocket and not get rattled. Stanzi is probably one of the better quarterbacks in this draft as far as his ability to sit in the pocket and make clutch plays.

I agree on all points.:yeahthat::yeahthat::yeahthat::agree:

He is the only QB I want us to take in the Draft....no doubt, I really don't see any of the others fitting in here and many simply don't have much talent.

Stanzi is my QB binkie for this draft, followed by Dalton, who will likely go sooner than it would make sense for us to take him. McElroy would also be a decent late round pickup.

The patriots do NOT need an "heir to Brady" in this draft. However, I really like Stanzi and think that we need a possible replacement for Hoyer next year, when Hoyer is a RFA. I'm fine with 3 quartebacks, especially if there is a roster size increase, as is likely, even if it is only for this year.

They don't NEED an heir in this year's draft, no, but Stanzi is such a perfect fit for the Patriots that I think that they need to pounce on him if he's still there in the 4th or 5th. He'd be a perfect replacement for Brady when he decides to hang em up.

What idfference does that make? After four years, Stanzi will be starting for someone else, and brady will still be starting here.

Stanzi in that 4-5 range is not a reach by any stretch, but my my binki is Kaepernick from Nevada if he hangs around long enough for 1 of our 3rds. If you could call any QB in this draft a 'tweener besides maybe Newton who'll be long gone by then, I'd point to this guy.

I'm not saying he's the next Brady by any means, but he strikes me as a "football player". TE, ST's, Wildcat, Back-up, whatever. If I was drafting someone listed as a QB in this draft, It'd be that guy.

Stanzi is my #1, followed by Ponder and McElroy.

Drafting/Developing QBs is good business.

Yes, indeed. Well chosen, sir.

This was my blurb on him:

***

Ricky Stanzi isn't quite there, yet, but he took enormous strides forward, this year. The Pocket Presence and the Mechanics still need work, but his Processing Speed is good and getting better, as is his Decision Making and Field Vision.

Even more importantly, he is by all accounts a Gym Rat and a Tape Junkie.

This is a Scrapper with a great young tactical mind who is absolutely dedicated to his Craft. And no, I don't give a rat's ass about his arm: It's good enough to get the job done.

There are 7 QB's currently rated ahead of Stanzi, and I like him better than all of them.

***

Brother Tak, I believe your comparisons to General Tom Brady have merit. Ricky Stanzi is my #1 favorite QB in the entire draft, eclipsing even my Super Binkie, Greg McElroy.

MIND you: I believe it is FAR too early to spend heavily on Brady's replacement: He said just last Spring that he wanted to go another 10 Years. I don't presume the next minute, much less a decade...but do YOU want to bet against him??

However, spending Late Rounders ~ or nothing!! ~ on the likes of Matt Cassell, Brian Hoyer, and Greg McElroy, developing them, and then trading them for much more than we spent, is a philosophical approach that I've been selling HARD, around here.

And investing a 4th Rounder, say, in the best Quarter Back prospect ~ for my money ~ in the entire Draft??

HELL, yeah.

Amen, Brother! I rather doubt anyone thought Tommy Brady from Michigan would be an heir to Bledsoe, much less vastly surpass him as one of the greatest to ever play, he was simply a guy who they thought would be a good fit that the coaches could mold. I see no reason why Stanzi isn't another good fit who can be molded, c'mon, how can you not want a guy who had the good sense to seek out TFB's QB whisperer for tutoring?

Wow...I don't like Stanzi at all. I question his accuracy and his play in big games. I can't picture him ever playing at the NFL level.

I was wondering when someone was going to say this......bad footwork, and doesn't know how to move around in the pocket.....not much of an arm, either

I think Mike Hartline from KY is best suited to be groomed to execute what the pats do. this guy executed big time against some of the big boys in the SEC........I would use the last pick I have on him

Wow, I wholeheartedly agree on Stanzi. I live in MN, so Big 10 country, and have never been impressed with Ricky Stanzi. He does not have a strong arm at all either, as noted by IllegalContact. I put very little stock in the throwing drills at the combine, but when I saw him throwing he was noticeably worse than the other QBs. Also, for being seen as a winner, his team went from being a dark horse championship contender early to losing their final 3 Big Ten games, including to a very very bad Gopher team (also a rivalry game). And while they won their bowl game vs. a ho-hum Missouri team, he was terrible in that game as well.

If we want to go after a guy who "just knows how to win," Greg McElroy and Andy Dalton are MUCH better options, although I think Dalton goes a little too high for the Pats to look at. From the Big 10 alone, I prefer Ben Chappell of Indiana to Stanzi--this guy is a battler who played on a bad team--and honestly do not see Stanzi as being much better than Tolzien from Wisconsin; he just has a slightly stronger arm.

I do not think he will stick as anything other than a career backup. If they take him in round 4 I may lose my mind. In round 7, it would not be a bad move. I do not think Stanzi is even one of the ten best QBs in this draft. And comparing him to Brady---EEK! I do not see it.

Since you know the territory, I saw Adam Weber in a couple games this season and thought he had the potential to make the roster as a UDFA and challenge Hoyer a bit. He and Chappell are currently on my UDFA option list. How far off base am I?

I couldn't disagree with you more and I've seen him play many times. I'll go out on a limb and state that he will be the best QB in this class. From NFP today: Don?t overlook Stanzi | National Football Post

I really like Stanzi too. He reminds me a lot of a young Brady -- the mechanics are really similar. And remember, Brady's arm wasn't nearly as strong when he came into the league. On the other hand, he seems a bit immature.

Well said, sir.

I'm on record as saying that The Little Big 4 will outplay and outwin The "Big 4."
