Round 1:

#17: Aldon Smith - DE Mizzou

#28: Muhammad Wilkerson - DE Temple

Round 2:

#33: Danny Watkins - OL Baylor

#60: Ryan Williams - RB Va. Tech

Round 3:

#74: Aldrick Robinson - WR SMU

#92: Mark Herzlich - OLB Boston Coll.

Round 4:

#125: Kris O'Dowd - C USC

Round 5:

#159: Shane Vereen - RB Cal.

Round 6:

#193: Jake Vermiglio - T NC State

Seeing how I like to keep track of Oklahoma guys, and they are of some interest to us. They have Beal lasting to Pick #126 (Jets). I'd gladly take him at #125. Also DeMarco Murray lasts till Pick 108 (49ers). Quinton Carter the safety from OU goes at #151 (Bucs) I think this kid is going to be a solid starter for years. No flashy or a pro-bowler, but a solid player.

Well, except for Aldon Smith @ 17, Ryan Williams @ 60, and Aldrick Robinson & Mark Herzlich in the 3rd round it is an OK draft...

Why would you take Beal if the Pats had already drafted Aldon Smith & Herzlich in this scenario?

Also why do they have the Pats taking TWO RBs? That doesn't compute.

I was not speaking about this mock situation. I was speaking in generalities. I thought that was obvious. Guess not. I should have clarified.

RB's under contract:
BJGE
Woodhead

RBs lost:
Taylor
Faulk
Morris

We will likely resign either Faulk or Morris for backup/st but drafting 2 RBs isnt out of the realm. There are a ton of FA RBs on the market but why spend the money?

There's also Thomas Clayton, who seems to keep leaving and coming back. . . .

I think 2 running backs makes a lot of sense.

Vereen in the 5th round.........HOW???

I'd be THRILLED winding up with the first 3 picks. Not exactly my dream draft but a very good start. Williams is an interesting choice at 60. I'd be interested in seeing what WRs were available at the spot. I don't understand Herzlig so early. He's a 6th rounder at the earliest. And I'd be very happy is Vereen is the RB the Pats wind up with.

Vereen in the 5th round.........HOW???

Yeah, that looks to be the steal of the draft. I think he fits into this offense better than Ryan Williams, taken 3 rounds earlier...and I like Williams. I haven't entered the draft contest yet, but Vereen is definitely one of the guys I feel fairly confident Belichick will draft if he gets the chance.

And those look to be two hu-ge reaches in the 3rd, although again, I like both players.

I'll be glad to get the first 6 picks. After that, the last 3 can be anyone. Although I think we can do much better than O'Dowd at that spot.

O'Dowd is a decent center and if he gets bigger and stronger, he could be a starter for us once Koppen goes after next season.

Although I think Connelly is better suited at Center than at OG.

I like O'Dowd a lot, if his injuries check out OK. I agree that is early for him, though.

do you have the link for the draft?

I went to sporting news and found:

17 - JJ watt (cameron jordan going to SD at 18)
28 - Ras I Dowling (cameron heyward and muhammad wilkerson still on the board

the rest of it was pretty much the same

Its actually a surprisingly good mock considering the source.

The Sportingnews has made a name for itself recently by throwing some curve balls with their player evaluations and mocks.

They revised it today.

The Sporting News claims to have hired some former scouts and they go through the process of writing up reports just like pro teams, but at the end of the day, I see nothing in their scouting reports that teams say to describe the players they draft.

Maybe they use a dart board after an all night bender.

Their draft guide was the only one I used to purchase, this was about 7 years ago I guess. I still remember the cover having the Georgia defensive end...the name escapes me, who ended up hurting his neck-I believe he was drafted by the Bengals. I liked their guide for a couple years, then they merged with some other draft mag, and went outside the box.

As far as current guides go, I read Lindy's and PFW.
