Somebody Is Gonna Have To Back Up a Brinks Truck to Edelman's Home Next Year

Slot receivers don't get much in the NFL...welker was the best on the market and he only got 6million$ after all his years of production

I can see edelman getting maybe 3million$

There are 2 occasions when I never walk away from the TV or out of the room:

1. David Ortiz is at bat
2. Jules Edelman is back receiving a kick

Why? Because I know both of them put everything they have into each opportunity and you NEVER know when something special might happen.

It's players like Edelman that can you really warm to. He's not been drafted high, he's had to change positions, he's ended up learning one that he's shown he's very very good at, he's played Defense - he's simply been there when he was needed. No complaining, no diva *****. He's the type of player that Bruschi and Rodney would have loved. Reliable, hard-working and determined to get better every day.

This is getting tiresome with everyone focusing only on the WR duties of this Swiss Army Knife.

Do punt returns exist in football?

Does special teams coverage?

Does the fact that he can very competently play slot CB?

As I wrote earlier, this guy is the Anti-Danny Aiken.

I wasn't talking about Edelman.

My bad..........

Going back to my primavera...........

Better wear a bib..........

Agreed. While it would be great to sign him to an extension in season, I don't think anyone will have to call the brinks truck. From my understanding he had virtually no interest this off season. That has obviously changed but I'm thinking maybe 3 years $7M?? It would greatly help his cause if he stays healthy this whole season. He deserves a nice contract but I don't think the Pats will give him his best deal if, when, he hits free agency.

The question I would have is what is his level? If you took his career totals and averaged those numbers over a 16 games season his level would be 74 receptions for 677 receiving yards, 9.1 yards per reception and 2-3 touchdowns a season. If that is his level than great and so be it, clearly that level is not worth $5 million a year but we’re here now so lets take what we can get, if you’re projecting a different level I would be curious to know what it is and how you came to identify it.

If all teams needed to do was assume each player would continue to produce the same average amount of receptions, why wouldn't they fire their scouts and hire accountants?

Amendola did have 3 catches last night. Short yards, but still.

And I love KT, but wasn't he invisible the last few games (even a healthy scratch from one)? It seems receiver production in NE varies wildly from game to game.

People seem to forget the timeline of how things went.

Thompkins was the guy coming out of camp with Amendola, Edelman, Boyce behind him because Dobson was injured. Then Amendola got injured and Dobson came back and, eventually, pushed Thompkins down behind Edelman and Collie after Collie was signed. Then, Collie got injured and Thompkins moved up. And now Amendola is back.

It's been constantly shifting and we only have our best guess at what the depth chart is. But, many people seem to forget that these guys continue to practice and the rookies continue to learn. And clearly the game plan changed yesterday from going for deeper passes to going for the shorter ones, which seemed to play into Thompkins ability more than Dobson.

the lions and colts would be the top two spots for him IMO luck has no one to throw to and irsay may pay a lil more just to take someone from the pats and the lions could use a slot guy

Luck has no one to throw to? That's incorrect or have you not heard of Dwayne Allen and Reggie Wayne? Also, i think you are ignoring T.Y. Hilton.

The Lions could use a slot guy.

Been one of JE's biggest defenders since day one. Still remember his big plays in the '09 and '10 playoff games to give us a shot when the rest of the team was sleepwalking. Dude's as clutch a performer as we've had since Brady in the SB days. Just hope he can start avoiding those major injuries that's kept him out for stretches in the past.

I'm waiting for the guy who claimed that Edelman was a garbage NFL receiver to check in and eat some crow..

guys, DaB...guys

Edelman would be addition to the colts. Reggie Wayne can't be a top receiver for much longer.

T.Y. Hilton is their slot receiver. He's playing outside out of necessity. Much like Welker did with the Pats.

The Colts are probably going to look for a veteran receiver outside or bring in a young draft pick to groom with Luck. They aren't in need of a slot receiver.
