1) Who will be the Practice Squad QB?

2) When we know the status of Branch for 2006?

3) When will Chad Brown be re-signed

4) When will Hank be back?

5) Will we add anyone else before Game 2?

6) How many games will Smith spend on the 53?

7) How many games will Mruc spend on the 53?

8) Will Pass come back or retire?

And did I miss it on another thread but whither Corey Bramlett? I assumed when he got signed to a 3 year deal as a UFA that, worst case, he'd be on the Practice Squad...

I hope this is not too stupid...

Can't Cassel lead the practice squad offense? He would get more reps (and more experience) playing against our defense.

Also first post.

Good questions. (6) and (8) were on my mind.

1) Who will be the Practice Squad QB?
Not sure we'll carry one at all.

2) When we know the status of Branch for 2006?
It may take a while. Both sides are committed to their current course of action. Probably, we'll hear nothing more until the Grievances are settled.

After that, I wonder if BB wont follow the same strategy he used with Terry Glenn... a lockout. There isn't much upside for him trading Branch before the end of the season, unless someone gets desperate and offers something like a first and a third.

3) When will Chad Brown be re-signed
Only after either Vrabel, Bruschi or Seau get hurt.

4) When will Hank be back?
Not expected. Our secondary is way deeper this year than ever before.

5) Will we add anyone else before Game 2?
I think Jonathan Smith is not long for the roster. I give him two weeks before we bring Bam back onto the roster.

6) How many games will Smith spend on the 53?
At first glance, he's not long for this team.

7) How many games will Mruc spend on the 53?
Now that he's on the Week One roster, he's good for the full season.

8) Will Pass come back or retire?
By Week 6, someone will get hurt, and Pass will come off PUP to backfill on ST and contribute on O. He's actually perfectly positioned to provide fresh legs and a late-season spark.

(So Far Childress,Stevenson,Yates,Kight,Mays,S. Thomas,Spann, 1 open)

2) When we know the status of Branch for 2006?
(Mediation on Saturday)

3) When will Chad Brown be re-signed
(Barring injuries never or if he is more valued than a roster player after he heals)

4) When will Hank be back?
(He was signed by Jets then cut, barring injuries never)

5) Will we add anyone else before Game 2?
(Probably)

6) How many games will Smith spend on the 53?
(at least week 1 vs buffalo)

7) How many games will Mruc spend on the 53?
(Hopefully 19)

8) Will Pass come back or retire?
(week 6 if healthy will bump Evans off the team)
Not trying to be smart just informative for those not in the know...
Simultaneous to above posting.

Unknown

2) When we know the status of Branch for 2006?
Any time now to any time during the season. I don't believe he gets traded till a month in at least. It will not be to the Jets unless compensation is real good.

3) When will Chad Brown be re-signed
When LB depth grows short or as a situational week to week thing if Brown is ok with that.

4) When will Hank be back?
Hank who? Poteat? He's on the Jets.

5) Will we add anyone else before Game 2?
Maybe but nothing that will be a breaking story. (except DB)

6) How many games will Smith spend on the 53?
Many if he performs. Less if he doesn't.

7) How many games will Mruc spend on the 53?
Many if he performs. Less if he doesn't.

8) Will Pass come back or retire?
Put on the PUP makes me think he will give this seaosn a go after week 6.

Why would Pass retire? Isn't he pretty young still? Maybe he won't make a roster this year - though I doubt it - but that certainly doesn't constitute "retirement."

I like Pass. I think he's one of our underrated and solid contributors. ST's, blitz pickup, dump-off half-back, blocker, and a pretty elusive runner. The whole package. He caught way too much flack for the little hamstring incident last year.

Some more roster questions

9) Why wasn't Tim Dwight re-signed?
-Well, we have Jonathan Smith now.

10) Why wasn't Andre Davis (or Joe Jurevicius or Keyshawn Johnson or Corey Bradford) re-signed?
-But we have Reche Caldwell now.

11) Why hasn't Ross Tucker been re-signed?
-Gene Mruczkowski won't be flattened by a DLineman on every snap, we hope.

12) Why isn't there a true (e.g. Fred Beasley) FB on the 53?
-Heath Evans is too valuable a runner to block anyone; besides, Daniel Graham's shoulders should hold together for one more year.

13) Why is Marquise Hill still employed?
-If he weren't, our '04 draft, after the 1st round, would be seen as a complete failure.

14) Why hasn't a professional ILB (e.g. Sam Cowart, Daniel Clark) been signed for the Bills game?
...zzz...

15) Do Larry Izzo and Don Davis have compromising photos of BB and/or SP?
-It is what it is.

16) After Mel Mitchell, then Barry Gardner, then Tebucky Jones all ended TC on the IR, why wasn't Keith Adams signed to help on STs, after he was released by Carolina?
-It is not our policy to discuss players on other teams.

17) Why wasn't AV simply franchised? Too bad if he didn't like it.
-We used the 2005 actuarial tables to calculate his cost/price/worth/value number; we weren't aware that the salary cap had risen 20% since then.

Sorry for the sarcasm; I'm just sick of seeing Miami's FO outhustle ours, while there are more moves to be made. There's still time, more than tomorrow, but not as much as yesterday. Good night now.

I decided to just respond to your last point Mr. Borges, whoops, I mean Captain Stone. I think the more appropriate name for you is Captain Stoned. Where has Miami been and where have we been in the last five years? DUH! No one move is a deciding factor, and no team has complete success in moves. Moves are part of the big picture. When all your moves are done, players are prepared, scouting is done, gameplans are put in place etc etc, what is the final result in the win loss column. That is the ultimate deciding factor, and the only one that really matters, in what a FO has done. Sick of seeing Miami's front office out hustle ours? Put the bong down. For anyone to make that statement after what we have done, I question either your ability to comprehend reality or what team you actually root for (likely both).

1) Who will be the Practice Squad QB? Not sure..obviously not Bramlett...but sometime soon, I hope.

2) When we know the status of Branch for 2006? His status is that he is on the did not report list. When will that change?? I actually think in the next few weeks something will be worked out; DB will be gone and the Pats will have picks/player in compensation for him. Maybe to a team with an injured QR who is in need.

3) When will Chad Brown be re-signed I think after two things A--when his wrist/hand is healed and B-depending on the situation at LB...injuies and play

4) When will Hank be back? Hank is a JET he may not be

5) Will we add anyone else before Game 2? Depsnds what happens in Game 1...injuries and play and other things...

6) How many games will Smith spend on the 53? I think a few and if he is very good, he may stick awhile.

7) How many games will Mruc spend on the 53? Depends..I think he stays and when NK is heathy Britt will go to the PSqd

8) Will Pass come back or retire? He could also be IRed for the season. Again, it depends on the RB situation. If there are injuries, he may be back.

A good set of questions...

Now I've truly heard it all. Can we fire Pioli and Belichick please? So we can hire Spielman and Wanny?

Yikes!

Welcome to the board Sunqueen. You seem to be confusing "practice squad" and "scout team". Yes, Cassel can and probably will lead the scout team offense, which is the practice team that acts like the upcoming opponent that the first teamers practice against. A practice squad is an 8-man unit that isn't a part of the 53-man roster---they participate fully with the team but can't play unless signed to the 53-man roster and other teams can sign them away.

Does Mruc have enough service time to get a guaranteed salary? I thought that was for 5 year players.

Re: Some more roster questions

9) Why wasn't Tim Dwight re-signed?
He got overpaid by the Jets.

10) Why wasn't Andre Davis (or Joe Jurevicius or Keyshawn Johnson or Corey Bradford) re-signed?
Andre chose the Bills over the Pats. Joe signed with Cleveland before even visiting the Pats-- he was being targeted, but took himself off the market. Keyshawn... why would you want him?

11) Why hasn't Ross Tucker been re-signed?
To be our #3 OC? The reason he was traded was because we wouldn't have made the roster.

12) Why isn't there a true (e.g. Fred Beasley) FB on the 53?
FB?!? We've won SBs without a true FB, and now you're complaining? There are two schools of thought in run blocking; you either use a FB or TE. For the first time since Marc Edwards, we actually have the staff to do either.

13) Why is Marquise Hill still employed?
Maybe he has skills that have we've still not seen. In MH's defense, he's stuck behind an incredibly talent-rich depth chart.

14) Why hasn't a professional ILB (e.g. Sam Cowart, Daniel Clark) been signed for the Bills game?
So, Junior is chopped liver?

15) Do Larry Izzo and Don Davis have compromising photos of BB and/or SP?
This is a surprise to you? Those two were roster locks before the season started. It's called the heart and soul of the coverage units.

16) After Mel Mitchell, then Barry Gardner, then Tebucky Jones all ended TC on the IR, why wasn't Keith Adams signed to help on STs, after he was released by Carolina?
Keith who? SP probably has a dozen criteria for signing FAs that we dont even think about.

17) Why wasn't AV simply franchised? Too bad if he didn't like it.
You assume that BB wanted him on the team. 2005 was an off year for Adam, and his sun is beginning to set. Watching Gostkowski and reading the reports about Adam and his foot, I'm starting to think BB/SP took the opportunity. They seem to have made an incredible smooth transition to a younger, cheaper player that could pay off for us for a decade.

Sorry for the sarcasm; I'm just sick of seeing Miami's FO outhustle ours, while there are more moves to be made.

You complain about losing Mitchell, Gardner and Jones to the IR, but those were all guys who the FO found and signed to contribute on ST. You're not onto something that they dont already know about.

I think you're way off base in terms of talent evaluation and personnel moves. In the last week or two, the FO has been very aggressive in addressing the WR and LB issues that we've been harping about for months. Gabriel and Seau were both aggressive and smart moves.

Where's the gripe about Branch?

I think you said it all...great comeback...VERY well said agreed!!!!!

Thanks, Rook, for your point-by-point rebuttal. Some thoughts...

9) Didn't Dwight sign a one-year deal for <$1M? If true, and given his status as our returner, that doesn't sound unreasonable.

10) I think that Keyshawn has mellowed out since his run-in with Gruden. Parcells did not want to lose him in favor of Terrel Owens; this was a Jerry Jones transaction.

11) Ross Tucker is a better player than Mruczkowski. Replace the latter with the former; Hochstein and Tucker then become our backup interior linemen.

12) Corey Dillon had his best years in Cinci when he ran behind Lorenzo Neal. A Sam Gash/Marc Edwards type of FB also plays STs.

13) Point taken. Give him one more year, then?

14) Junior is not chopped liver at all. What I meant was, if Bruschi can't go on Sunday, then the ILB backups are Izzo, Davis and Alexander. Maybe there's hope for Alexander.

15) Heart and soul are needed for STs; so are speed, strength and explosiveness. Izzo and Davis don't have enough of the latter any more. Do we have to keep both? How about just one, like a mascot.

16) Keith (son of Julius) Adams was a very good STer for the eagles. He was exposed when he had to start at OLB last year, however. I would still rather see him take snaps on D instead of Izzo and Davis.

17) Point taken. The Ghost has looked terrific so far...better to cut the cord a year early than a year late, I suppose...Still,...

I agree that Mitchell, Gardner, Jones, Gabriel and Seau were all good/very good pickups. Yet, by the end of TC, there are still holes at WR and LB due to injury and ineffectiveness. I would like to see the FO add one more young vet, with some history of production, to each of those spots.

No gripe about Branch from me. I am in agreement with the FO on that one.

p.s. to the Strangler: Mea maxima culpa for daring to question the FO. Give me a break. I've been living and dying with the pats for 35 years. You may question my ability to comprehend reality; I do that myself, sometimes. Criticizing the FO and rooting against them are completely separate. That's reality.

Try 4 years, 4.2 million. 750k signing bonus. I loved the Dwightning and wanted him to stay here too, but not at that price.

Thanks for the info. I wonder how back-loaded his contract is, though.

Britt is the guy we hang on to, he has more upside than Mruc at this point, Kaczur can backfill G behind Hochstein if needed. Loosing both Koppen and Hochstein in one game would be rather extreme, and a very sad day.
