So, what's our game plan?

Since apparently the Jets were confused with the 2 TE formations used during the MNF game, throw out some never before seen formations and try to confuse the Jets. Logic dictates that the Jets will go over the film from the MNF over and over again. So why not throw something completely new at them. Can anybody get me in contact with BB, I got some more ideas for him...

BB reads these boards every day.
He coaches democratically with our opinions.

Interesting that the Jets changed things up against the Colts--have to wonder if they'll try to flood the field w/DBs again, in which case the Pats would probably look to run more.

Our TEs would love that!

Cromartie is overrated and can be burned deep. Revis is the only great defensive secondary player on the Jets.

Cromartie is definitely overrated, but I think his biggest weakness is covering short, quick routes. He simply can't handle either Branch or Welker.

I remember Branch on that 4th down TD pass in the 45-3 blowout - Cromartie looked like me trying to catch my 5 month old golden retriever running around a large field, i.e. SLOW.

I agree with this ... however ... if the Jets can get a run game going and shut down Welker and ONE of the tight ends ... we have a chance.

That is what they should be doing, put Revis on Welker all night long instead of lining him up all over the field and trying to outguess the playcalling. Also put Cromartie on Branch, and start off trying to establish the run.

The fact is that Gronk and Hernandez are glaring mismatches for the Jets. It doesn't matter that Revis will shut down his man because he can't cover 2 TE's.

Wouldn't the Jets be well-served by going to zone coverages against the Pats?

Tom Brady carves up zone defenses like a Thanksgiving Turkey.

Yeah, that's true, isn't it. Just thinking out loud....honestly don't see how the Jets even slow down the Pats offense. Have to bring pressure like the Giants did, and that ain't happening....

Can anyone speak to Revis' ability to cover TEs?
Gronk has at least 7" on him and is a good athlete in his own right.
I'd like to see that matchup.

They did have Revis lined up on Gates last year in a few situations and when they did Jackson got the ball each time lol. Revis is aggresive but size and strength he couldnt stop Gronk really.

If Gronk runs a hitch route how does revis get around him?

It depends on the timing of the pass. If Gronk and Brady are on the page it can't be stopped... The only way to stop it is to react and get your hand in there to deflect the pass.

Plus... I'd love to see Gronk beat up Revis on run plays. Just drive him into the sideline.

Exactly.

Red Zone is going to be important this week, I can see Jets going into coverage alot when we get down there.

i think if Hernandez is playing we target him down there, who is gonne be watching him? a LB?

Our game plan is to sit down with friends & family, have a lot of great food and cheer for the Pats to kick the Jets butts.

What's yours?

Hmmm...that game plan is missing one important thing.....BEER!!!!

I would be ready for a Ryan D that doesn't blitz as much and uses more of a cover 4 - flat nickel look whose weakness is the long ball. Think of the DBs being lined up laterally about 8 yards behind the LOS and flood the field with DBs/speed. That being said - can we hit the long ball? Tate? Price? Branch?

I also think they will aim to stop the run in the nickel package as they did against the Colts. Play Eric Smith as a LB to cover our RB like he did Addai.

I would also be ready for onside kicks throughout the game (not just kick off)- a la Green Bay. We were not prepared for that, it caught us off guard and set the tone for the game.

In addition I would be ready for Ryan to go for it quite a bit on 4th down. And really get into a lot of 4 down - run - run - run - run situations. Whoever is playing across from Vince better bring his lunch pail and hardhat.

His strength is his O-line and RBs. Weakness is QB. He has a personal vendetta against BB and the Pats with nothing to lose. He's going to put it all on the line.

On defense:

Teams that run at the Patriots cause them trouble. Many teams have fallen behind and stopped running.

In the last Jets game, they ran down the field fairly effectively on their first series, and then turned to the pass. Even in the loss, they had good results with the run. Cleveland clearly dominated on the ground. Other teams have run well against the Patriots.

Further, the Jets did a good job against the Indy defense by committing to the run. They tried to hold the ball and tire the defense.

The Patriots have fewer DL rotational players than they like.

The Patriots like to confuse less-experienced QB's with exotic coverages.

I would expect the Jets to run Greene and Tomlinson throughout the game, keep the game out of Sanchez's hands, and try to keep the score close. That's their best chance to win.

The Patriots need to be able to stop the run early. Hopefully the return of Spikes helps. Hopefully the return of Cunningham helps. Hopefully Pryor and Love can contribute. The Pats should be in slightly better shape to defend the run than they were two weeks ago.

On offense, it's not really possible to match up Crumpler against Revis, as some have suggested. The Jets determine who Revis covers. But he can only take out one guy. Cromartie is very good against big speedy receivers; he's not nearly as effective against a player like Branch. Further, Woodhead, when on the field with Branch and Welker, adds a third shifty receiver that's a match-up problem for the Jets.

The Jets defense has not been as effective, as much as I have seen, against screens given their exotic all-out blitzes. If the Pats can see them and throw right over the rush, they can slash that defense. Similarly, when the Jets drop back against the Pats shifty receivers they are similarly at a disadvantage.

I can guarantee BB's "have to stop" person will be the RBs. It's no secret that he'll attempt to put the game on Sanchez's arm. If we can limit the runs, and MAKE him have to throw to win. It's over Johnny.

Even if their D plays well and limits us, we'll still score in the 24 range. Sanchez will have to beat that. I don't think he can.

Find Eric Smith and target him again till he proves otherwise. Dont forget the run, play plenty of draw plays when in the gun.
