So the D is definitely coming together, but the O hasn't sold me yet

I love these threads..............

methinks some people need to go back and watch a few games from 2001-2005. You know, back when we were winning championships. Death by 10,000 papercuts. It's not pretty, but it works.

I'm enjoying this season.

1) The defense is young and in transition and still has room to improve. This is especially true in the corners where we have seen little production from Wheatley, Butler or Wilhite. The prodcution has been so little that we have sometimes been forced to use safeties as nickel and dime backs.

2) The offense is also in transition, moving primarily to 2 TE schemes, with lots of dinks and dunks.

3) Both units needs lots and lots of contributions from players in their first year with the team, making transition challenging.
===========================

THIS ABOVE IS NOT A NEGATIVE SITUATION!!!!!!

It is a strongly positive situation. While there may be losses when or both of these units has a poor day, it is most reasonable to expect both units to be considerably better by the time the playoff run comes around.

Why in the blue hell is it every time someone says something negative about the offense, its because 2007 skewed their expectations or because they want that 2007 style back? That routine is getting quite old.

Any other theories as to why half the postgame threads on this board, dedicated to the winningest team of the last decade, complain about some random bullcrap?

I honestly believe that some people are just blow ins and bandwagoners. This team has morphed back into the style of game the Superbowl teams played with.. and they have youth on their side.

We are 2/3rds the way through a 5 game stretch where this team will be thoroughly tested in all departments. It all looks really good so far, they should win next week at the Browns. Then they go to Pittsburgh where the Offense will get a real solid test from a top D. And then the Colts come to town with their no huddle offense which will test the D in a game where subbing in players is very difficult.

If they go through the next three games 2-1 this team is very good, if they go 3-0 then we can start talking about a possible championship but right now its just a bit early to get too excited although its hard not to.

We have one of the greatest QBs in history, and yet we can't get anything going consistently, not in any of the games. I want to be an optimist but it just isn't there yet.

I don't think we win on a neutral field against a half dozen teams.
Why do you think you need to be an optimist? Check the points scored in today's game by the offense. Check the average points scored in the NFL today. Compare the two. Then please be quiet.

6-1 best record in the NFL for me that says it all

this is the way the pats won 3 SB's with a defense that gets better as the season goes on and a offense that will find a way to score 1 more point then the other team... the pats may not have a 1000 yerd RB or a 1000 yerd WR or a 4000 yerd QB this year but so far they are on pace for the #1 seed in the AFC and that all i care about

From Reiss's Pieces:

Patriots points average best in NFL. The Patriots have scored 205 total points in seven games this season, giving them an NFL-best 29.3 points per game average. The Patriots are on pace to score 469 points, which would be the second-highest total in team history behind the NFL-record 589 points the team scored in 2007.

Not only the best in the league this year, but on a pace to be better than any other non-Patriots team in the history of the NFL. Yeah, the O really sucks this year.

Not sure why all the flaming of the OP. Despite some impressive scoring stats, it's clear to me from watching the games that the offense is transitioning on the fly and is nowhere close to having reached their ceiling. (A welcome change from '07, honestly.)

Plus, the D is coming of age and only just in the past few games beginning to demonstrate a penchant for stepping up at critical moments to make big stops.

I don't care what the numbers say; no way has this club peaked. I expect that, per usual, BB has the team preparing to play its best ball by December.

The fact we're still winning games with the O still finding its real identity is great. Because sooner or later the O will be firing on all cylinders and it will be perfect come Playoff time!

we need a david givens like player to go with wes and deion. tate is good but not there yet.

He will get there im sure, He has the coach and QB to learn from and progress!

How are you with the Special Teams play? are you down with that? Every team is a work in progress... I'll take a 29.0 ppg average so far as being far from panic mode...
