Denis and Callahan is porn for grumpy old men. Outrageously detached from reality, they take themselves far too seriously, and as an actual conservative I find their spin on politics offensive. There's nothing remotely entertaining about them

I'm a Toucher and Rich guy 100%. I heard their first show on 'BCN, and have been a loyal listener ever since. It sucks that they make comedians talk about sports, but it keeps them in Boston, so it works for me.
I like to think that they are a little more intelligent than "frat boy" humor, but maybe that's just my inner frat boy speaking. It's the best when Fred gets angered by some obscure tick in humanity. The show is nowhere near where it was during the glory days of the afternoons on 'BCN, but it's still great radio.

Dale and Holley is pretty good. Dale is the the support guy, Holley is the guy with the knowledge. It's really your fairly standard mid-day sports talk station duo. Nothing special about them, nothing that really makes them stand out.

Tanguay and Zolak is basically the same as D&H. Zo is pretty damn funny, though, so slight advantage there.

The Big Show is the most horrible thing I have ever heard, period. That cacaphony of spittle, fat cells, basball, and boston accents. I hate it with every sinew of my body. How is four half ******ed fat guys yelling about baseball intentionally entertaining? I get they are playing to a market, but it boggles my mind that there are people in this state stupid enough to find it entertaining. Trash marketed to trash. Just effin dreck.

Felger and Maz makes me want to reach through the radio and bludgeon Maz to death. I hate their opinions, but at least they are capable of delivering them in an articulate, concise manner. Given the choice, my cd player usually wins out, but at least it's tolerable. Out of the two sports afternoon programs, this is the one for the people with a full set of chromosomes.

Mike Adams should be on the big show. The end.

D.A. has been a revelation. He is amazingly well prepped, articulate, thoughtful, listens to his callers, and responds well to them. I often find myself working 12-15 hour days, so having him to listen to when I'm all alone in the office is wonderful.

Advantage: Sports Hub.

Case and point of why I do not like D&C...

This morning is a "Patriots Monday" and I assume we'll get a lot of Patriots talk. I normally can only listen for the first hour or so before heading out to work but I take what I can get. It amazes me the lack of basic knowledge a former sportscaster for channel 7 and a former writer for SI have. They did not know that Adam Vinitieri was hurt nor did they know what the stat "TFL" stood for. I would assume those are two things which those involved in covering the NFL should know. I could almost overlook it, though, were this not the first time it happened. Many times they have to look up who the Patriots are playing in two weeks or the Red Sox rotation or even the game time for that particular day/night. We, as fans of the teams, know these things. The people who supply us with information should as well. Is that too high of a standard?

How can you take EEI serious as a football station when Callahan makes the comment earlier in the year that it is irrelevant if the Patriots can or can not run the ball. That comment proves he's a football "know nothing" and simply doesn't understand the game.

The 71 yard TD by Moss on the crossing pattern does not work if Miami isn't respecting the run as they had 8 lined up in the box.

I'll take 98.5 when it comes to football.... and football is really the only sport that matters!

The only time I regularly listen to D&C is on Patriots Monday because I really enjoy the Boomer interview at 8AM. This forum's widespread antipathy to D&C is atypical since their ratings dominate the morning drive time. I surmise that it's because the hosts lack of detailed football knowhow does not appeal to the well informed football fans such as those participating here who are mostly seeking deeper insight, not flippant controversey.

I have a feeling that the demographics of D&C are similiar to Rush Limbaugh's demographics in this town. I am not trying to turn this into a political thing, but D&C talk a lot of politics between 7-9 and get a lot of calls and e-mails on those topics. Even today, they are spending more time politicizing the Fort Hood tragedy than talking the Patriots win.

I am betting that D&C's ratings success is because they get a lot of non-sports fans during those hours. Headlines is supposed to be their most popular segment and that would support that assumption since it is 100% non-sports related.

Note: This is not aimed at you, Rob, but is merely a general response to your point.

I've been trying to get this across to people since these discussions began. Morning drive is not the same as the rest of the day. It's why Imus used to be on WFAN, as an example. People here who are complaining because the morning shows aren't sport oriented enough for their tastes don't understand how radio stations pay their bills.
