Yes, belichick has fired coaches.
Pees is a "real" and reasonable defensive coordinator. In the next few months, we will all assess what he did this year (as Belichick will do also). I believe the assessment will be that with all the challenges the defense had, the defense performed pretty well indeed. They operated without Seymour, Bruschi, Harrison, and Vrabel. They even played with Mayo for much of the year.
We have no offensive coordinator. Obrien was an assistant three years ago, then one year at WR coach, one year at QB coach and then this year with him as QB coach and acting OC. Wand who does Brady confer with when he comes off the field to figure oout what do to next? Surely it is Obrien? NOT! it is either Moss or belichick that Brady comes to. Brady may be a god, but he needs an OC AND a quarterback coach. I didn't like it when we had to wait for Josh to develop while he worked the same two jobs, Might I say that Obrien is no Josh! I believe that belichick will make the assessment of Brien and NOT promote him to Offensive Coordinator. Belichick will need to bring in someone, or promote someone else and bring in another position coach.
