"(12:01 AM) Come again when you can stay longer… According to an unconfirmed report, 375-pound New Orleans undrafted free agent DT Walter Thomas lasted less than 10 minutes at Saints rookie camp this weekend. Thomas was reportedly carried off the field by training staff and his locker has reportedly been cleaned out. Thomas was literally the ‘biggest’ undrafted free agent signee after the 2007 draft. Thomas’ college career consisted of two junior college games as flunked out of Oklahoma State before ever playing in a game, while trouble with the law cut short his stint at Northwest Mississippi Community College. "

From the Great Blue North Draft site - I know many us us were intrigued by Water Thomas as a possible backup for Wilfork. Seems as if he doesn't quite have what it takes.

To put it in perspective, Jonathan Sullivan was a workout warrior in comparison.

Re: So much for Walter Thomas

That's what people fail to appreciate about "character" issues.

It's not just shooting guns or smoking dope, it's working hard, being dependable, being tough etc.

If you can't find a way to pass a few free courses as a football player in college, you just ain't trying.

Talk about being handed things on a silver platter.

Re: So much for Walter Thomas

Really, dreadfully sorry about this,
and begging Mr. Thomas' forgiveness
... but i almost cannot keep from laughing.

Too bad. That guy was a beast.

Re: So much for Walter Thomas

They carried him off the field?!

Really?!

How many of them were there?

Yep, there are two kinds of character for a prospect, personal character and football character. Thomas failed on both counts -- flunked out of school, arrest record, out of shape, not a hard worker. All the natural ability in the world can't overcome that.

(In contrast you have a guy like Meriweather who had some red flags on personal character but an A+ on football character: intense worker, devoted to football, team leader, film rat, student of the game who aspires to coach.)

Re: So much for Walter Thomas

I want to get the real info. on what the hell happened to him.
I'm pretty sure at 23 years old I could last 10 minutes in a pro football camp.

And I certainly would not be carried off the field!
what happened? was he in such rough shape that the coaches were pushing him and he physically collapsed?

He had to be carried??
He couldn't even gather himself to get up?
AFTER 10 minutes!!!????

Reports were that he was dominant in the texas vs. the nation game...
So obviously he was in good enough shape to play...

I wish I knew the real story here... or if he did in fact collapse of 10 minutes of training camp action, how on earth did he play in the texas vs. the nation game?

FWIW, the article said something about being "helped off," not "carried off."

Still says something about the guy, though. . . .

It was a mechanized infantry regiment.

It was a mechanized infantry regiment.
Having trucked cattle to slaughter, including down animals too injured to walk, I'm sure you exaggerate the force needed for this effort.

Am I missing something?

385 lbs? I imagine he was rolled off, like a tarp.

And there's doing what it takes to get by character. Gotta love this:

"Right now, I drive a 1992 Toyota Camry with a rusted paint job," said Meriweather. "The back window doesn't let down. It's kind of beat up, but I'm happy with it."

Now we know what Meriweather should spend his signing bonus on, although he didn't seem eager to part with his decidedly un-pimped ride, which by his estimate has 270,000 miles on it.

"The Camry is a go-getter, man," said Meriweather. "The Camry is good. I don't care where I put the Camry. The Camry will make it. Give me an oil change and I'll drive to Canada if I wanted."

Doing what it takes to keep going!!:rocker: :rocker:

Yes, you are missing that a sportsblog listed it as HELPED off the field vs., carried off. And the blog is supposedly in contact with the guy.

What I find funny is that supposedly Thomas claims that he will be in camp in June with the Saints, but the Saints have already taken him off their website.

I don't recall that he said he would be in camp with the 'Saints', just that he would be in camp. Maybe another team wants to roll the dice?

The entire defensive unit.

They probably cut him so he couldn't put the Saints cafeteria out at the team lunch.

New Orleans Saints released DT Walter Thomas.

According to the New Orleans Times Picayune, New Orleans Saints releaseed DT Walter Thomas 12 minutes into the team's first minicamp practice.

Should we take a look? He could back up Sam Adams.
