Slightly surprising possible picks at #22

Both guys have poor agility. Someone like Shawn Lauvao, Marshall Newhouse or Ted Larsen would be Patriots interior linemen.

Not even slightly? Sapp would raise some eyebrows.

Nah these names have all been mentioned and associated with the Pats at this pick for months.

If you told me someone like Jonathan Dwyer or Earl Thomas or someone way WAY out of right field then id be like whoa!

Ah but I did say slightly in the title of this thread. It is easy to come up with outlandish picks...hmmm...actually it is easy to come up with slightly surprising pick..so nevermind.

But not what I am trying to get at is that the Patriots are sure to surprise us; their board is very different than the mocks we see. What are some of the rare of surprising picks they could make. Wootton would be one possibility. Pitta might be another. etc.

Duh, you're missing the obvious shocker -- Tebow!

I could see Tebow at 22 - -but not for the Pats. I wouldn't be shocked if the Ram picked one of the big DTs at #1; then maybe they trade their second and third for #22 (not sure how that works with the value chart, but you never know) and got Tebow (or McCoy).

Rams are into Bradford 100 %

Rams are into Bradford 100 %

Well, if by "the Rams", you mean the ownership, that's still up in the air as the long-time 40% owner just recently decided he's not happy with his new (about a month) 60% partners and the direction they want to go and has made a bid to buy them out.

So, how can we really know what "the Rams" want when we don't really now who they are, in terms of ownership (much less what they want)? I mean, I "read the papers" same as you and what's been said or implied by the FO and virtually all those signs point toward Bradford, and, personally, I think it would be kinda stupid for the team to be taken in any other direction at this point, but those reports are still third-hand info at best.

I dont even think Pouncey will be available when we pick at 22 which is unfortunate. Peter King has said hes been hearing from everyone picking 10-25 that they love this kid. I also heard Mike Mayock say the same thing on NFL Network. They say hes a plug-and-play guy. He comes in as a rookie and starts for the next 10 years! I could see him going as high as Denver at 11 and I dont see him slipping past Pittsburgh at 18.

At this point if Brandon Graham isnt available at 22 I really hope we trade out of this spot. I dont want Jermaine Gresham because theres no value in the pick because we dont use our TE that often in the passing game and he is a below avg blocker coming off an injury. I don't want a CB at 22 like Jackson, Mccourty, or Wilson because I think there are similar guys available at 44 and that there isnt a huge need at the position with Bodden signed longterm and Butler, Wheatley, and Wilhite still developing.

I don't want Odrick because there are similar and maybe better 3-4 DEs available in rds 2 or 3. I don't like Kindle as a prospect and I dont want to draft Ryan Matthews first rd.

I could easily see BB getting a plethora of picks if Clausen or Tebow is still on the board at 22 which seems very likely one of them will still be there. I think Buffalo is in love with Tebow and will trade up into the 1st after going OT at 9. We could get Buffalos 2nd, 3rd, and 4th for our 1st and 4th. I also think Arz or Minny could trade up for Clausen at 22. We could get a first and third from Arz or Minny.

the pats take jerry hughes, at #22 with sergio kindle, and Jared Odrick, still on the bord. it's not a WTF move but it's not the pick that everyone thinks pats will do.

Slightly less surprising: Pats take Hughes at 22 with Kindle off the board, but Odrick still there.
If BB can trade back a few spots and still snag Hughes, then all the better.

Everson Griffen
its a name that has been thrown out there but not the real popular pick

I'm going to go with Taylor Mays as a surprise pick.

I keep thinking he might be a possibility; he seems to have a bit of Rodney in him. I'm just not sure how that works with Meriweather and Chung there already. it's possible the Pats might prefer to have Mays over Chung, but that would be awkward situation. Plus you'd be upgrading a strength when there are so many needs.

Just read somewhere the other day that Pouncey has a very low wonderlic score. Do you think that would scare the Patriots away?

There are many good players that have gotten low wonderlic scores (Sebastian Janikowski, Chris Johnson, Dan Marino). I believe that if the Patriots believe he is a decent guy with common sense, good athletic ability, and his head on strait then it shouldn't hurt him too much. I think Pouncey is a better athlete that Iupati. Both are good though.

At a position at a position like the offensive line you can see just about everything you need to on tape. The dynamics of the position don't really change too much in the pros, the real difference is the level of coaching at the NFL level. You simply need much better technical skills at this level because the opposing linemen are all experienced players who can exploit naive rookies.

If Pouncey gets everything right on the field then I'm not sure it matters. As a long-term starter in college he's not going to be like a fish out of water in the pros.

This was a good quote on a San Diego forum.
...

However, after having interviewed Pouncey and conducting other background checks, personnel men for six teams all said Pouncey's score of 14 wasn't a concern. "He's a real smart guy," said Eric DeCosta, the Baltimore Ravens' director of player personnel. "He's very smart football-wise."

...

"I'd be worried if I hadn't talked to Pouncey," an NFC personnel director said. "The history of centers that low is not good."

Here's one that would surprise many: Dan Williams. A lot of people here cite that he's not a five-technique guy, so not suitable for the Pats' needs. A valid point. At the same time Breer has touted him, he came in for a visit and I think one of the National Football Post mocks has him to the Pats at 22. Overall, a good candidate for a "surprise." Plus I see Gosselin has him #8, so him being available would be a surprise too.

Ugh, Taylor Mays sucks. Stiff in the hip and no ball skills to speak of.

That would definitely be a "TV out the window" type of pick.

I'm with you on this one. As much of a bad rap Mays gets, he's the perfect hybrid-safety that BB has been looking for since he signed tank williams 3 years ago. I'm not saying it's the best pick, just one that would be a surprise and has some merit.
