That's a wonderful honor to a terrific leader, congratulations Mr. Slater!

(And from a football perspective...so many young players enter the league having always been hot shots and treating ST roles as an afterthought. Think of what a difference it must make to have an example set by a man who is one of the team's top leaders, a perennial pro bowler and now the league's Bart Starr honoree all via special teams play.)

Matthew's father HOF tackle Jackie Slater won the award 20 years ago, first father and son to win this award. He must be extra proud of his son today.

Shame Slater can't make the Hall, he's certainly worthy as a special teamer. They need an additional special teams vote every maybe 3-5 years or so.

Tremendous. I am not a religious person at all, but I am very grateful people like Slater ARE. He is an inspiration as a human being, and if that comes from his religion, thats ok with me.
