Signing a WR for $6.9M = Senseless

Perhaps. WAS ran the ball more than they passed last year too. Shanny likes his WRs.

I just think when you look at Dez Bryant, Julio Jones and AJ Green all playing last year at half that it is clear that drafting and extending early is the best route to build a team. And use FA to add complementary pieces.

I personally don't disagree with drafting a WR in the 1st round. Having a guy like TB throwing to Julio Jones would be an incredible additon to the team.

Jones and Green were top 6 picks. One expects them to produce.

Deion Branch, David Givens perhaps?

perhaps........branch was drafted around where he should have been given his production.......

since then, the drafting of bethel johnson, chad jackson, brandon tate, taylor price begs otherwise

I don't get it? Yes of course they're expected to perform just like we expected Jones and Hightower to perform with our 1st round picks last year?

Bryant was also a top 10 type of talent. He fell because he's a chucklehead, not because of his football skills.

You seem to have a serious problem with the word "expectation". Expectations SHOULD BE very different for a top ten talent than for a bottom of the first round talent.

Agreed.

If we really plan to draft the wide receiver of the future, I would suggest using TWO top picks.

To some degree when drafting them they were more of a luxury type pick rather than a pick to address a need so BB and his team took more risk with their selections. Not saying he was right they were bad picks but I'd like to think with the current state of the WR group he is going to go after a player he early that he is certain will be what we need, like he did with Jones last year.

Johnson, Jackson and Tate were also as much about drafting a speedster to return kicks as they were drafting a WR also so you must take that into account when you analyze the picks.
