Mathis actually wants a raise

Yeah, this is probably where the problem lies with giving up a 7th rounder for him. If he shows up and holds out, or creates some other kind of delay/issue, it becomes a loss rather than a gain.

If he's cut and hits free agency, he's in for a surprise regarding the market for good but aging guards. I bet he doesn't get what he's earning now, unless one of the cap-rich numbskulls like the Jets step up and overpay him.
