It's not like the NBA where you have 99 numbers to choose from for a roster that consists of only a dozen players.
I agree with your post, but I just want to point out that in the NBA only digits 1-5 are valid, so a number like 15 or 51 is OK, but 16 or 61 wouldn't be.

Early weird Patriots honors.

Pats had a great 4 man line in the 60s.

Whoever decided this stuff inducted Bob Dee and Jim Lee Hunt into the Hall and retired both numbers.

One Patriots lineman made the All AFL 1st team, enshrined in a display in Canton.

It wasn't Dee or Hunt. lol

I get all of the arguments for not doing it, and I get that you can't retire every number from this championship run, but I wouldn't want them all retired anyways. Right now, Brady and Bruschi are the only ones that I think are worth retiring, and Seymour could maybe make his way onto the list if he doesn't leave as a FA after this year. After Brady, there's nobody quite like Bruschi. Coming back from the stroke may not do it, and playing in 5 SBs may not do it, and being a major defensive playmaker in all 3 SB wins may not do it, but if you take those 3 factors in combination, that's awfully impressive.

They should unretire a few numbers.

Hannah, Tippett, some day Brady. That should be all in my opinion.

We have a Patriots Hall of Fame. Bring back some of the numbers. What happens if we have a Peterson-type player and then another load of top class players. We'll run out of numbers sooner rather than later.

Cappeletti,Haynes and Armstrong should not have their jerseys retired???

Let me guess..you were not alive when these 3 guys were in their glory years ..correct?

But then again, the issue remains of who believes in retired numbers and who does not

I think his point is that retiring numbers should be for the elite of the elite.... and Hannah, Tippett and Brady are the 3 best Patriots in history.

Tedy to the Pats HOF can't come soon enough.

Correct.

And, yes you are correct. I was not alive for a lot of them. But I go on by what I hear and am told by those that were.

Haynes I would consider, but he was only a Patriot for 7 years.

They could barely fit Gino into the 50th anniversary team, he isn't as deserved as Brady, Hannah or Tippett.

I say yes retire his number. When all patriots fan think of 54 they think tedy.

In regards to Willie and Seau, 55 was Seau's number at USC and Willie took it right after he left, its a Trojan's thing, its a big honor to get 55.

As people have mentioned, there are only so many numbers.. I don't believe that they have numbers available for Linebackers to retire another one since Nelson and Tippett are already retired.

What I would do is hang Bruschi's jersey for the season as a tribute to everything Bruschi has done for this team..

BTW, if the guys ever needed a mission, they have one now.. To get #4 for #54...
