Patriots Player Departure Shaq Mason traded to the Bucs

Right now the Pats O line stands as Andrews and Wynn and we all know that Wynn is going on IR before September is over.

Mason's biggest cap hit was last year, the Pats will be paying McCourty more not to play for them (in his void years) than they were on the hook for Mason. The guy has been a great draft pick and a steady performer. After losing one starting guard, the Pats shipped the other one off for pennies on the dollar.

The Pats actually got more draft capital for a one year rental of Sony Michel, than they go for a All Pro guard!

If they do not re-sign Trent Brown, Mac should take up running, because he is going to be running for his life!

Did we check with the Bengals? Wouldn't they have given us at least a third for Mason?

Brown's calf is a real concern.

How is Wynn's durability a problem but Trent Brown is the solution?

Relieved to see the forum is still up and running. I half expected it to have been closed down since the Shaq Mason trade seemingly signalled the end of the New England Patriots i.e. why have a forum for an ex-NFL franchise?

This might bring an upgrade in Trai Turner is about to be signed as a free agent.

Are there enough players available in the draft to fill the number of needs?
Oh Yea. It's a defense-heavy draft. DL, CB & LB are top heavy and deep. Probably the best three positions in the whole draft in all seriousness.

True nose tackles are always tough to find bc of size & athleticism but you have 4-5 solid choices. Obviously Davis and Jones. Then in some order you have Mathis, Ridgeway, Farrell, Ogbonnia, Elliss, McCall, Humphrey, Stevenson. Not as deep as the other positions but it never is.

Plenty of day 2/3 choices at CB/LB.

Seeing what Guards are getting paid, OT’s might be a lot less hesitant to move inside. They never wanted to do it before because the gap in pay, but now guards are making almost the same as elite OT’s
I think he’s already down for $10mil this season - *should* be enough incentive…

La’el Collins (projection), Wynn, Andrews, OneMenu, and at RT…? Brown if he’s resigned.
Cousin,
Great forecast. If we can get Collins at a reasonable number that would take the "stupid stain" off BB. The problem lies wherein. He can be had for a low Draft pick (good) but.......his CAP is $15mm (bad). If you can persuade the Boys to allow a contractual revamp prior and get him at (being optimistic) $17mm for three years you pull the trigger. Back load the crap out of it with game-played incentives.

The guy you might target you take from your rival, the Bills. Daryl Williams at RT. CAP cut.
" Set to enter the league's legal tampering period with hardly any excess salary cap space, the Bills will save at least $6.3M with Williams' release, just one year after the veteran signed a three-year, $24M extension. A former fourth-round pick of the Panthers, the 29-year-old Williams saw time at guard and right tackle for Buffalo, starting all 33 games for the team over the past two seasons. He originally joined the Bills on a one-year deal in 2020, emerging as a solid right tackle during the team's playoff run."

Offense Snaps Played
117 25th
Penalties
6T-19th
Sacks Allowed
4T-17th

Versatility that BB seeks. Can even play RG. Waht sticks out is only 4 sacks allowed with Josh as his QB WHO THROWS........A LOT.

I would rather Trent Brown than my next guest star, but a cheap pick up might be Bryan Bulaga at RT. Had core surgery last fall. He is a one year option perhaps at 33 but has always played at a high level. CAP cut for Chargers. Vet presence.

I don't know. Maybe sign Brown and one of these and put Wynnn at Guard. There ya go.....revamp.

I watched every snap of every Pat game last year....he wasn't even our best lineman.....Onwenu and Trent Brown were better. Not sure how he would be considered the 4th best guard in the league. With that being said, I am still stunned by that trade.
Gotta disagree with you here, Ashley. I also watched every snap. Mason was our best ol. Much better than Brown. You can make a case for Onwenu but he was a backup and his pt was limited. But yes he was great when he did play. But its hard to compare a reliable starter like mason vs a backup like onwenu. Onwenu has played well since hes been here- as has Mason. Big Mike will finally get his chance to start and I expect him to be great. But Id much rather have mason than brown. Different positions but mason is better and far more reliable at his job than brown is at his

I'm really interested in the fact that so many DEs who were slated to go early are now dropping into the 2nd and 3rd rounds, and I'm talking about Enagbare, Cameron Thomas, Ebiketie, Drake Jackson, and several others.

Myjai Sanders had a slow time and dropped from a maybe 1st rounder into the 3rd or even 4th round, but he's big and I almost don't even care about his 40.

Yep. Mason also played as many games last year as Brown has his last two combined - one guy is available, one guy isn't. Onwnenu had a really good year, but Shaq still played better.

Almost a thousand snaps with 1 sack allowed. He had a great year. To say he was our 3rd best lineman last year is disingenuous.

No worries Jim, I'm no expert but I just think Trent Brown was great when he played (only 1 sack allowed) and Owenu is a stud. I still don't understand the trade, but I had issues with Mason, not necessarily in the run game but thought he struggled some in the passing game and protecting Mac.

I thought with the skyrocketing price for F/A guards we could get more, but let's call it what it is... a salary dump. I'm still more concerned about OT then I am OG.

Onwenu can man one spot, and the Pats got the prize free agent from the Canadian Football League in guard Drew Desjarlais. The kid's a good athlete and proved to be a mauler up north.

I still expect them to add depth along the line before camp for competition.
Couisn Wozzy, Desjarlais is only 24 and was a stud in the CFL. Who knows but the Pats had luck with Canadian Nick Kaczur until has pill trip. He started many games for the Pats and was not that bad.He had to replace the injured Matt Light for one season and started many other games.

Let's hope this was a reason to allow the Mason adios besides CAP.

Kaczur was a B level player and athlete, Desjarlais was the consensus #1 free agent available from Canada. Doesn’t make him a sure thing, but he’s a solid prospect who provides a good experience, strength and athleticism.

Mason wasn’t necessarily traded because of this player, it was a salary dump, but there was some wiggle room there with Onwenu waiting in the wings and the signing of Desjarlais. I still think they bring in more competition.

Maybe the patriots should stay away from day 2 corners
