Patriots Player Departure Shaq Mason traded to the Bucs

Just checked the thread to see discussion on the trade.... everyone needs to calm down

Seriously, went I left last night the discussion was about mid round guards in Patriots history, and when I came back this morning it was... THIS.

Optimism on day 3. The pats are an Allen Robinson & Collins/Brown acquisition away from their best offense since 2017. Onwenu will be a monster at RG & they want to get him in the lineup where they feel he has the most upside.

Good vibes only.

So sensitive. are you really upset that some Pats fans still root for Brady, the greatest Pats player of all time, who should still be on this team? i Could care less about Brady personally, but it’s awesome seeing him continue to play at an MVP level at his age. It should have been for the Pats,
On one hand ... You could care less about Brady...

On the other... It's awesome to see him playing like this...

Another Patriots supremasist who think is the defender of the TRUE patriots fandom.

This forum is becoming more and more like a trump rally sometimes. « Make the patriots great again « .

From what I heard there will be a ceremony at Gillette the first game at home to give the Patriots Medal of Honor to Pape for being the best Patriots fan ever
Imagine, the nerve of some people who think that the Patriots forum shouldn't be about how great Tom Brady still is 24/7/365.. lmfao...

No it's pretty accurate. When you troll and take up multiple pages of posts, including the responses you troll up, it adds up very quickly.

So if the size of that thread bothers you, then know that you are the biggest contributer to it.

Give me some numbers. How many posts did I make in that thread of the total number of posts?

And no, pretty much all of you ignore me on that thread so you can't say the responses take up pages.

@VectorPrime suggested that we rename the forum to "tombradyfans.com"...no joke. I saw the Brady worship a few years ago and called them out for it. It's gotten a lot worse since then.

He was graded 4th last year among all guards by PFF. You got to do better than a 4th...

and what exactly does that mean? PFF is.......a good guess at best

I watched every snap of every Pat game last year....he wasn't even our best lineman.....Onwenu and Trent Brown were better. Not sure how he would be considered the 4th best guard in the league. With that being said, I am still stunned by that trade.

judging this trade on 3/16 is the equivalent of grading a draft the day after the draft

Can’t say I like the trade at the moment. If there is a grand plan in place then I guess people are up in arms over nothing. Love if they bring in Collins but if they aren’t able to land him this board is gonna go ballistic. Maybe BB feels the answer is right there with some of these guys who have been riding the bench? But as a fan looking from the outside, Ferentz, Heron and Cajuste really don’t inspire any confidence. No idea why Onwenu road the bench last season except that Brown was brought in for rt and Mason was the right guard. His rookie year was outstanding so there is that. Not panicking yet but as fans no-one wants to see there strong pieces traded away without immediate return. For the time being its another hole this team needs to fill which they already have a few of. Draft is coming and there is still more time with free agency but definitely anxious times right now.

Not much else to talk about in March.

i know......but give me a good BGC draft thread over the wailing and gnashing

although this has been the most fun i've had in awhile......i only follow maybe half of the new england nfl/sports "media" on twitter, if that......and to watch the posts on twitter and the posts here whine is good fun......i still haven't figured out if posts on places like here drive the twitter trollers (there's a lot of them now), if the twitter trollers drive posts here, or if it is all just to drive traffic to bad boston sports radio......but the incestual relationship of it all, and the fact that so many are at the edge of the cliff already (seemingly) in march is hilarious

I'm not sure they could do better than that. He is owed $7 million this year and $8M in 2023 and he will be over 30 at the end of his contract.

We all assume he's one of the best guards in the NFL and irreplaceable... but it's interesting that Mason has no pro bowl selections in his 7 year career...

PFF guesses he is!

That’s the thing I mentioned earlier. The fact that he saves only $7m now (which they needed, but could do in other more obvious ways) and that the Pats only got a 5th back, makes me think the Pats didn’t think he played well enough to be worth the money. I’ll leave it to those who can really analyze film, but I know I saw some clips posted here last year where Mason had some issues in pass protection. Maybe that’s their issue? Not saying I agree with them (or necessarily disagree), but that’s all that really makes sense to me.

i think its a combo......with the players rostered, T is the bigger issue than G......they assumed he was going to price himself out of what they want to pay, possibly even before his contract is up (i am sure his agent loves the fake PFF ranks and the paydays other Gs are getting), they look at the need for $$ this year and next, and their actual grades on his play, and decided this was the move

if when all of this shakes out, they have owenu slide to a G position and upgrade the T position, then it is a win

He had an abdominable issue which may have affected him. It would be funny if Belichick sent Mason to Tampa knowing that Shaq would be a liability for Brady...
