Seymour surprised by PUP designation?

Re: Seymour surprised

My guess it that Seymour was at about 80-90% to start the season, and BB figured he could win without him....and would rather have him at 100% for the most important part of the season

I doubt he was that close. He would have had him on the active roster and not practicing. You never know how a season is going to play out. What if Green got injured and Seymour was close to be ready? With Seymour on the PUP, he couldn't come back and that could have lost us games making late in the season less relevant.

If Belichick thought there was a decent chance of Seymour playing even in emergency situations before week 6, he wouldn't have PUPed him.

So Seymour felt at the time that he would have been ready before week 8?

That's great - but if you're the coach, do you take the chance, keep him off the PUP and sacrifice a spot on the 53 man roster?

Not if you have a very very good backup like Jarvis Green.

I doubt that this is the case. Injured players, trainers and coaches are in constant communication. Are the Pats *really* going to make a decision like this without input from Richard?

Re: Seymour surprised

It sounds like BB didn't really use the PUP list as it was intended. I also assume that there are requirements to be put on this list? Maybe there aren't, just asking.
Basically it is ANY injury that a player has BEFORE training camp that places them on PUP....and if it is a non-football related injury, there is a reserve list that is special FOR that. Considering that SEymour had knee surgery in teh offseason, I think it's a stretch to at all think that there was anything unfair or "cheating" as some trolls think. Of course players always wish to play quicker than they should...(well most of them anyway)..but it's not always an easy decision to make.
If there was NO surgery and he was placed on PUP, then I think there would be more of a point of contention. How did NN not USE the PUP list as it was intended?? It was suppose to be used for players NOT ready for camp...and there is nothing at all to indicate that that was not teh case.

Re: Seymour surprised

Wisperings as as useless as tits on a bull. Do you think that Belichick knew his team was going to be so good and relatively injury free on the DL that he shelved his best defensive player for seven games that he was healthy enough to play in? Good thing Warren or Green didn't get hurt.

I mean, come on....

At most, Seymour possibly thought he'd be ready before game 7, and thought the Patriots might just keep him gameday inactive, like the Lions did with Kevin Jones. But my guess is that these wisperings are fabricated.

There were also some around the time the decision was made that Richard had experienced a setback in August that could have been re-injury or infection related, as well as that Seymour's issues extended to concerns that go a bit beyond pure the healing process. Like they wanted to be sure he was not only pain free but painkiller use free. It's not all that uncommon for players not to be, which can really mask symptoms and reek havoc in other ways down the road. Maybe his HC had everyone's long term interests at heart, difficult as that might be for Bill's critics to believe.

I stopped listening too closely to what the guys at PFW had to say some time ago. Starting when I first saw them in roundtable forum on WB56... That was when I realized that access is only what you make of it and they are really more a collection of opinionated, mainstream media wannabes who worry more these days about never being seen as homers, and possibly even being viewed as controversial contrarians, by their media peers who get them addiional paying gigs on outside outlets, rather than as a really valuable and insightful conduit between a team and it's fan base. The whole Allisonlovesbrady debaucle was just proof positive of that. I still can't grasp why they had to go out of state to find an overweight jock wannabe with an immature ego and a deviated septum looking to bash players on a message board. They could have likely found several dozen of those locally...

I hate it when people beat around the bush. If you don't like PFW, why don't you say so?

That all makes sense. I guess Big Sey's take is odd, but who knows if it is accurate.

If you were talking about the 5th best DL or the 6th best LB who did not have surgery over the off-season; you could make a case for BB trying to stash his depth and hide it from being stolen off the 'shadow roster' or PS by some team with injuries of their own.

To make that accusation about a perennial pro-bowler who can be argued by some to be THE BEST DL in the league; is really rather absurd.

Gets even more absurd when you throw the surgery into the equation. PUP is there exactly for this purpose. When you have an injury and you dont know when he will fully recover and you dont want to hold your 53 man roster hostage to that situation.

I wish I'd said that.

Bunch of junior high gossips, if you ask me.

Re: Seymour surprised

umm, the way seymour has played last two seasons...he wouldnt have had a chance to make defensive mvp for the year even if he had played all season

Seymour was injured last year and played through it. In 2005 he missed some time with injury, but when he was out there dominated. Do you not remember Seymour taking over in the fourth quarter versus the Steelers? Plus, he's never going to have huge stats because he's the one eating up all the double (sometimes triple) teams, freeing up the other D-linemen. Again, Seymour is at least doubled on EVERY play.

How soon some of you people forget....

This is painful. I'm trying here, but I just can't go on much longer.

Fred can be annoying at times....but he becomes loveable

Seymour back? Best news i've heard all month apart from Pats kicking ass! Great news!!
