@AtomicDawg: the f—kup at the end of the Argentina game was far worse than Ebner's missed kick here. The US wasn't expected to beat Fiji. They should have beaten ARG.

But isn't that what Fiji just did to end the game? Sorry to be obstinate, just trying to understand the rules.
Reality check
Best Fiji athletes go to Rugby - and you can see that from a mile.
In USA rugby gets low string athletes for the moment. That makes it a tough call.
Ebner is not a rugby player, he is not even top football player - and he looked one of the best in US team.

for us british-slang challenged:Not just that, but they target sevens as opposed to the 15 man version.
I didn't watch it but bad luck y'all. GB beat NZ which was a turn up. Fingers crossed for a medal.

I believe kicking it out there would have been a ***** move. You've got the ball, move it down the field and score. It would be a pretty bad message to send to your players. It's not like kneeling on the ball to end the half, you expect to get it ended on something other than your opponent's try. At least that's what my newbie brain is telling me.

Missed the game due to having to fix my wife's grandmother's house phone..
I have to put the loss on the coach. I said it yesterday after the loss to Argentina. Ebner brings a whole different level of intensity to the team when he's on the field. And the other players react to it. It was night and day difference.. And it was proven again in the game against Brazil when they had Ebner on the field to start the game.
The US needs more high intensity players like Ebner. Hughes is good for kicks.

Pfft, you guys just copied our flag
I need a Safe Space as those colors evoke racial memories of 'mericans impressed into the British Navy circa 1812
