Semi-OT: Good story on Adam Vinatieri

I liked the quote from Parcells. "I don't remember saying it, but it sure sounds like something I'd say." (paraphrasing)

I still remember Bahr's comment to me during 1996 training camp about some young kid trying to take his job. Young kid was obviously Vinatieri

Great read....good guy.
I own one framed Patriot photo and it is AV's blizzard kick. Epic

Based on Vinatieri’s advanced age and utilizing ESPN's advanced metrics and actuarials I have determined that there’s a 99.9999999 percent certainty that by next week he'll either be dead or physically unable to kick a ball further than 10 yards.

Solid career though.

No thread on Adam is off topic.

Had he spent the last 10 years here like he chose not to do then he'd be even more immortal than he is now

Could of been brady/bill/Adam instead of the usual Brady and bill

People also forget that it is 2 AV MISSES that are responsible for Bill Bellichick being the HC of the New England Patriots. In 1999 Pete Carroll was fired after an injury riddled 8-8 record. But in 2 of those losses Adam missed makeable FG's at the end of games that would have tied or won them outright. If he had made those kicks the Pats would have finished 10-6, in the playoffs and Pete Carroll would have remained the HC, and BB would have wound up elsewhere, if not with the Jets.

So the next time you take the time to thank your lucky stars that BB has been our HC for the last 17 years, take moment to remember it might not have happened without those misses from Adam Viinatieri.

BTW- this article caused me to look at AV's stats and I noted something interesting. Stephan Gotskowski has a FG average of 87% for his career (and that's kicking almost all of his games outside in the NE). Currently he is at 83.3% and we are having caniption fits over those results. Literally endless threads demanding that replacements be found or at least have people brought in to compete. What I noted that in 10 years AV was with the Pats, SEVEN of those years, his completion percentage was LESS than that 83%.

Now AV is the greatest FG kicker in NFL history, a true HOFer, so I don't point this out to demean him. I point it out to demean those who are so ready to dump on a player for not doing badly, but just not as good as the absurdly high standard he's set for himself. Adam himself has had 3 seasons in Indy, in a dome, where he kicked at less than 80% (though his last 4 years have been unworldly)

I have that picture too.

Hard to believe he's now been a Colt longer than a Patriot.

Adam Vinatieri is the NFL's old GOAT

Lots of things I didn't know about AV.

Never knew AV was a special ed student or went to West Point and I thought I knew everything .

You never really think of kickers as fitting the BB narrative for "mentally tough" but AV not only is in the club, but might be the template for which all are measured.

The only player ever that's ever played 10+ years for the Colts, and yet will still always be a Patriot.

I knew about Kinchen's snapping troubles but didn't realize it was so bad that he was dressing in his uniform in the middle of the night in his hotel room and trying to practice snaps.

I met a landscape contractor at SB 38 who landscaped Vineteris new house in NE.

The guy told me that AV was just a pleasure to work for and acted like a regular guy with him and his crew.

I had a faint recollection of Kinchen's troubles but gawd if this was public during the playoffs and leading up to SB38 this board would be in meltdown mode

Even though Vinatieri is in his 11th season with IND (vs. 10 in NE), because he missed 10 games in 2009 and one in 2013 he has still (barely) played more regular season games for NE than IND. The current count is 160 for NE and 159 for IND.

If you throw in postseason games the current count is 177 for NE and 172 for IND.

So unless something disastrous happens to him he'll eventually retire with more seasons and games played for IND than NE.

I want to read this article but it's BSPN. Can somebody give me a link to that site I can view BSPN from that will try to limit the advertising revenue they get when combined with an adblocker.

Please and thanks!

place-kicking GOAT -- greatest of all time. Vinatieri has participated in more victories (219) than any NFL player dead or alive.
He's got more wins than the (qb) GOAT???

I loved AV and yet I totally understood why he needed to leave and why the pats needed not to overpay. The one thing he didn't say as part of his reason for leaving (that I think was a part), was that if he stayed under BB, Hof voters could write him off as a product of bb. It's hard enough for a kicker to get in, I think he needed that SB win under another coach to earn that kicker goat title (and the dome-longevity factor didn't hurt either).

Only sour taste is that dolts and paymeaton were the beneficiaries of AV talent

Not to me. He was a Patriot once and hit the greatest FG in NFL history, but he chose to go to a rival and in two games will be there longer. He will soon be an Indiot.
