Winning with 14yd on the ground got me wondering (and other people too) and it turns out that the 1986 Pats ran for 2 net yards in a 21-20 win over the Saints on 11/30/86, which is the record low for a win in the post-merger era.

NE got a TD pass from Eason (to Starring), a blocked punt TD (by Mosi!), and a fumble return TD (by Brent Williams).

It just adds to the overall mountain our guys had to overcome to pull out that win. Couldn't run the ball worth a damn and were completely one dimensional.

Let's not do it again.

While your stat is factual I do have to wonder........back then did sacks count towards passing or rushing totals?

didnt TRY to run the ball

Big props to McD and BB for abandoning the run (that's weird to say). It wasn't working at all and was just a waste of plays. I know people are going to come out and say we should have ran it 35 times because we're 20-0 or whatever when running 35 times or more. Expect to see some running vs the Colts.

I remember that game as it was part of their long winning streak (7 games which for the old pats was the most ever I think). Eason played great that year and kept pulling games out at the end. It all came crashing down against Cinci, who absolutely destroyed the Pats in the next game.

Their running game was awful that year. Once Hog Hannsh retired that was it.
