Seattle signs Matt Flynn - QB musical chairs

Sheesh ... things aren't going to well in Phin land.

Let us not forget what this could mean for one Brian Hoyer. Would someone left standing at the altar want to pony up a 2nd round pick?

If Peyton wants another shot at a ring, SF is the place to go!

Good move by seattle.

Who is the Miami QB going to throw to, Ocho?

Maybe the Dolphins should call Jamie Fox and see if he wants to QB. He was a big star for the Miami Sharks in Any Given Sunday and Stephen Ross loves to kiss up to celebrities. A match made in heaven. Miami can get Beamer Fever again.

Yep. Free Agents are avoiding Phins like the plague... Remaining QBs : DavidGarrad, Alex Smith, or Hasselbeck (if Peyton goes to titans)...

Phins fans must be outraged...

Kyle Orton should have waited out an extra week or two. He'd probably be starting for Miami rather than backing up Golfomo.

I hope they take Tannehill in the draft in the 1st. HAHA

What I would like:

- Dolphins to panic and overpay Alex Smith while keeping a cheaper and capable Matt Moore on their bench
- Broncos to sign Peyton Manning (Bud Adams doesn't deserve Peyton and I would hate for the Pats to be stuck with Manning, Moss, and Manningham as a road block in the SB)
- Tebowmania flips the f#ck out
- 49ers left staring at David Garrard as their new starting QB

Yessssss....close to #1 happening:

According to the Denver Post, the Dolphins are currently negotiating a contract with free agent Alex Smith that would pay him $8 million annually.
The Dolphins are so desperate, after losing out on Peyton Manning and Matt Flynn, that they're now willing to significantly overpay a borderline NFL starter at near the level of franchise quarterback money. Matt Flynn only got $6.33M annually from the Seahawks. Smith isn't as physically talented as incumbent Dolphins starter Matt Moore, and he's certainly not worth more than Flynn. At this point, it's almost like the Fins are trying to sign a quarterback, just to sign a quarterback.

I don't fear Smith's noodle arm any more than I would fear Moore (who performed admirably at times last season). This would also make the LOLphins look even more silly considering Flynn, who would be a much better fit for them, would be making less in Seattle after calling Miami's bluff.

The only thing that tempers my excitement here is considering the source is the Denver Post.

the Fins' problem is that because they signed Moore as a backup for backup money, they refuse to look at him as anything else.

Boy the Dolphins really misjudged this preseason. They better sign Alex Smith pretty quick before the 49ers lose out on the Manning sweepstakes.

Does it really matter when they get Alex Smith or not?

I think it would be a bigger problem if they looked at him as a starter

and they might still win the NFC west.

Aparently Garrard's visiting the Fins as well. It keeps getting better and better!! :rocker: Next I assume they'll give McNabb a try. If that even failed one would wonder if they still have "Coldpeppers" on speed dial.

Dolphins just announced they've signed Bob Griese, Earl Morrall, David Woodley, Scott Mitchell for 2012 season......

We'll see much more in a couple of days. If Manning goes to SF, then Smith goes to Miami. Of course, Miami could sign Smith in advance of the Manning decision.

And if they do that, SF will be in a bind and have to sign Manning or be stuck with......Kaepernick???
That drives up Manning;'s price as he can play SF off against Denver and Tenn....

Sure, but they're not winning a friggin SB with David Garrard.

BTW...

The base value of Matt Flynn's three-year contract in Seattle is only $19 million, with $10 million guaranteed.
The initial Flynn report claimed he received a three-year, $26 million deal. Per the Milwaukee-Journal Sentinel, however, Flynn's base contract is just $19 million with $5 million more available through incentives. It appears the remaining $2 million could be had via "unlikely to be earned" incentives. Either way, it's a much more team-friendly deal than the Cardinals gave Kevin Kolb last offseason. Even if the full "guarantee" is only $2 million less. If both Flynn and Kolb emerged as viable starting quarterbacks, the Seahawks would be paying Flynn much less than the Cardinals would for Kolb.
