Patriots Player Departure Schefter: Nick Leverett released

Weird. They’ve been open about how he’s been fighting through injury and missing practice time, so at the very least you would’ve expected them to have to put him on IR. Despite Brown playing well yesterday, he was still the next guy up. You also don’t see that many guys cut on Monday since they don’t get paid for the week until they’re on the roster at end of business on Tuesday. Feels like there’s more here, maybe a Jack Jones style blowup on the coaching staff for being benched at the last minute or something.

He flashed in one preseason game for a couple of series and otherwise was substandard good luck to him

I kind of feel bad for him. He's been asked to play out of position since Jake Andrews went down and they decided not to go get an NFL caliber backup center. They just stuck Leverett there where he struggled. It seems like he's able to hold the spot down as a 3rd string, gameday emergency situation, but he's clearly not a worthwhile option to actually start there. It wouldn't surprise me if he blew up on the coaches because to be quite frank they really ****ed him over this year. Playing him so woefully out of position they have him putting terrible tape out there and potentially ending his fringe NFL career.

It's astounding that once Jake Andrews went down they didn't do more to add to their Center depth chart and even more astounding they didn't sign someone like Ben Brown during the first waive of training camp cuts. The front office has ruffled some feathers here with their approach to the past offseason, but most of that seems by design whether you agree or not. The mind numbingly dumb aversion to having center depth amidst injuries is probably the biggest sign of incompetence I've seen out of them though. There's no strategy or plan to that, it's just idiocy.

Can the Patriots at least not be 32/32 in OL roster and on field play in 2025? Is that too much to ask of whoever is hired to replace Wolf after he's fired this offseason? I'll take "one of the worst" OLs instead of just objectively the worst at this point.

Are we getting to the point where the weekly winner of the score prediction get's to play on the OL the following week? I'm sure we have a few on here who could keep Drake upright.

I also find this a little odd. He could have been an ok backup at G.

I thought he stunk in the preseason and then was shockingly solid/good against 49ers. Then blew chunks vs Miami.

49ers pass rushers are best from the edges, Miami was best from the interior. Which, in hindsight, explains his 49ers game.

His PFF pass block grade for the Miami game was a 7.9 and for the season it was 19.8, worse than any Center on the season. Second worse of any offensive lineman with 35 or more plays.
Logan Bruss, Guard for Rams is only guy worse, 7.2 for season and had a 0.0 rating vs GB.

Not going to miss him, tape was bad from the first pre-season game, when he was healthy and playing against backups.

Something must have happened.
